Another satisfied user of the infotechmercenary unit.
Have a 2008 CVO RK and have replaced/bled fluid every 2 years. Added 16" apes in December of 2019 and needed to cycle ABS module, The infotech unit was easy to use and did the job without a hitch.
Been considering one of the tools because I have a circle of buddies with same abs, problem is Ive heard they marry to one bike.
I can attest to that. I had two motorcycles thinking I could use the tool on both of them. It will only work on one and he won't fix it so I would have to buy another one to do both my Sportster and my road king.
I can't really blame him he's got to make a living too
The Mercenaries unit is a good buy, if you only want to use it for one bike.... it DOES marry to the bike
If you have several bikes, think you may change bikes, and/or may want to allow friend's to use it too.... I suggest you get the Daytona Twin Tec, Twin Scan 4 Diagnostic tool...
The Mercenaries tool that allows for multiple bikes is $500. The Twin Scan 4 doesn't marry to a bike, and allows for multiple bikes. It can be bought for $450-$550..
The Mercenaries tool is a "one trick pony"... it allows for cycling the ABS during flushing/bleeding.
The Twin Scan tool can handle the ABS duties, and does so much more... It can program key FOBs, disable security, program pins, can enable/disable engine control settings, enable/disable body control settings and can do data logging of your tune...
For the money, the Twin Scan 4 is a much better, more functional tool, if you want multiple bike ABS bleeding capabilities...
I'd change the lines, bleed normally and see how the brakes feel. Many have done this with good results. If firm and normal, then find a dirt road or gravel road... and activate front and rear a few times. This is how I flush then exercise the abs. Doing this on asphalt does not activate the abs solenoids very much.
Id you lived near me we could do it on my property which is where I activate the abs. 150 ft of flat, hard pack, DG. decomposed granite.
Thanks guys. Still torn with decision. Like to do things right...dont like other people touching my bike.
Ill likely try the bleed and skid and bleed again method first and then evaluate where Im at.
really appreciate input.

On a similar note, and this is just my take on it. Not trying to convince anyone... Those abs tools exercise the hcu valves at an unrealistic rate as compared to even the most severe abs breaking on the street, dirt, ice... Their are a couple abs tool vids online if you have not already seen them. The tools activate the hcu for ~10 sec's non stop a couple times at the fastest rate possible. ABS breaking, while riding, is limited on wheel speed and the sensors in the bearings which will never reach the rate of those tools. To me, its like testing the engine at max rpms, no rev limiter, for 10 secs and doing it two times. Many will say its to stress test the hcu and its better to have it fail when testing then riding. Maybe. Then again, maybe it will never fail during normal abs breaking because of the reasons stated. That being said, if air is in the hcu, an abs tool is necessary.
If you were not aware, MoCo admitted that the 08-11 failure rate was related to brake fluid "stability issues" from 08-11. In 2010 MoCo discovered this and then requested that DOW Chemical make a different blend of fluid that was then used in 12+ bikes. In 2018 this information was shared and documented with the NHTSA during its investigation. This is good to know as these abs modules are not as bad as once believed. Not saying they are good either as I'd much rather have the 2014+ Bosch abs.
Do what makes you feel safe riding. If youre not sure about the "skid" method, then by all means buy an abs tool.
I bought the mercenary tool and it works great. I told him I need it for wifes bike to he gave me an extra code for free. I hav a close friend that has 2 bikes and he bought 1 after he saw mine and he got 2 codes too for free. Great tool- especially if you have 2 bikes. Far cheaper than HD on two
simce I am computer challenged I had to call him for help. He answered on a Sunday and stayed on the phone till I got it. What other company does that anymore
