Default Original Brake Pad life

Just a quick question to see how much life owners are getting out of the original pads. I'm normally downshifting as much as possible to save the brakes and now have 15,000 with the originals and on my 2nd set of tires after the original Dunlops went at 10k. Got the 880's on now and love them. I checked the 08 accessories catalog and hd pads for mine are $42.00 a set but I'm also looking into Lyndalls but they're quite a bit more. Any info will help

Do I need to swap both front and rear pads of I switch to Lyndals? I have an 05 RK with 12.5K miles and have always been noisey up front/

On my '03 Ultra, I have averaged replacing the rear pads every other rear tire. They weren't worn out but down pretty thin. The fronts are original having never been replaced and the bike has 56,000 miles on it. I downshift at times too but never at a speed the bike revs high.

Regarding downshifting to save the pads, probably doesn't hurt anything but do keep in mind it's a false sense of security wearing out the clutch/gears to save on brake pads. I doubt you'll save a lot on the pads anyway, or at least not much IMHO. If you're riding hills, shifting to a lower gear and using engine breaking rather than riding the brakes will helpa lot

Got 17 K out of the front set. (new rear tire at same time) Rears much sooner. Rears are due a 2nd time at close to 25 K miles.
Lyndells coming up.
Went to floating front rotors at about 19 K miles.

EBC Kelvar pads are 19 bucks a pair from Jireh. I've been using them for about 7 years now and have no complaints. I just swapped my fronts ones out with about 30k miles on them. They weren't worn completely worn out. I just swapped them because I had everything apart while swapping rotors and was leaving on a long trip shortly.

Me? Lyndalls. A no brainer. No rotor wear (do not spend $ on a new rotor(s)), Stop better 30% on a FL, rears last 18-20K average, and again, they stop & that is the purpose of a brake. A lot cheaper than a hospital stay and/orfixing your bike. It kills me when a person will buy a piece of chrome over a performance enhancer.

Consider EBC Kevlar (Organic) pads. I put 106k on a full set on my old RK before selling it and they still had 1/3 of the pad surface remaining. Excellent performance, little dust, and no noise. Used EBC floating rotors on front only. Just installed these all-around on my new SG with HD floaters on front, stock rear rotor, and noticed pad surface is not as thick as the old Evo pads, so I wouldn't expect them to last as long, maybe 75k. These can be purchased from www.tfogracing.com for $19/set, and Drag Specialties also sells them. Some of my sport-biker friends use these, too.
