The pins are made much cheaper now then about 5-10 years ago. I've had a few friends that have had theirs for many years with out any stress on them, I've had to replace a few of mine. But I do check as part of my checklist each long ride.
...the reason the bag fell off is because the pins had spread. 2007 model with 300 miles makes it the MOCO's fault...
If you're putting your seat on and strip a screw head because you didn't have the driver seated in the head before trying to tighten it does that make it HD's fault?
I was putting a bag on in the dark the other night and thought perhaps it felt a little different while twisting the fastener but didn't look twice. Next time I went to take the bag off the pin wouldn't pull through the bag (at least not readily). When I got it out I saw it was spread a little so I took the pliers and made it right again. The fact that I didn't have the bag tight against the bracket before forcing the fastener is my fault, not HD's.
I just hope they're not $13.95 apiece or something...

They are only $8.25 each. LOL Below is the Part#, the Retail Priceand Chicago HD's price that I got off their site when I looked it up. Probably just as cheap to buy it locally with the shippimg charges added on.
You said the bike was 9 months old - in that time had you ever taken the bag off? if not than maybe HD's problem - of course you could never prove that - on the other hand, if you had the bag off then its yours. My luck, the bag would have come off , slike across the street and killed some little ole lady....
Sorry dude, gotta go with the dealer on this one. Can't imagine the pins or springs "wearing out" on an 07 with 3K miles. If those pins aren't on the springs just right.................check them twice in the garage next time and then again before you pull out of the driveway.
No, they don't just wear out but as others have said if you don't have it seated properly they can spread. If you look at the pin there is a weak spot at the bottom of the slot. And don't forget not all of us have those delicate soft touch hands! [sm=grinangel.gif]
