Went in to get an upgrade for my cam chain pads, and found out one of the cams was shot.
The bearing were fine, but the cam was worn. Kind of odd 2004 roadking with 22,000 on it. lot of shaving too.
i guess its always good to check..
My inner cam journals were shot at 30k on my '06 Nightrain. That was caused by the really lousy cam bearings that were made in Asia and were stock from HD. Replaced them with Torrington brgs and never looked back... and got to up the performance from the cams and change to a piggy back ECM. Woke the bike up that's for sure.
Assuming it was an OEM cam? Make sure you replace the lifters too. Something was not right to cause the cam to wear.
Also, Im curious, if they were just replacing the adjuster pads, whyd they pull the cams?
Maybe I misunderstood your question, but the cam plate and cams have to pulled from the cam chest to get a direct view of the rear tensioner pad or to replace it.
It was my inner cam journal on one cam .
I changed the cams, lifters, cam plate, bearing, oil pump and adjusters. Also needed to flush all the steel shaving out of the motor.
I glad we found it, because the pads looked ok, but i decide to change them anyway. You just get lucky sometimes...
