called the dealer today and they checked the bike out, { still no speedo, no turn signals, no brake light, no horn or cig lighter. In a round about way he basically told me they didnt know what was wrong with it and they had to call tech services at haley davidson for some help.......bike is still under warranty, I hope I dont get slammed with a bunch of labor to pay......but he PROMISED that I wouldnt....anyway he said this was a unusual and unique problem.......JUST FIX THE BIKE...... I dont have much patience...espeicially when its 92 degrees and i could be ridin. oh well I'll quit whining.
Those items are all considered accessory items. So I would start at the
appropriate place in the wiring harness, even though they are on different fuses.
I am assuming here no blown fuses.
I don't have an 07 wiring schematic, but basics are the same.
turn ignition on and you supply power to the fuse box(basically)
Power then goes through the appropriate fuses to the above mentioned accessories. The turn signals are harnessed up in the fairing (if you have one) and so is the front brake light switch and the speedo and cig liter and horn.
so sounds reasonable there is a fault between the fuse box and that accessory harness (or whatever HD calls it now). May be as simple as a loose harness plug. If it was ONLY speedo and horn and cig lite, then I would still suspect that harness.
If it was JUST the rear turn signals and brake lite, then the rear fender harness under the seat.
But since it is both front and rear I have to go with a common harness up front.
Be prepared many dealer techs have limited trouble shooting skills any more, even though they are "factory" trained.
I learned electrical / electronic systems diagnosis in the CORPS on Helicopters and Jets. Common sense rules. Most of the time it is something very simple.
For future reference please always post year make and model even in an updated thread.
Granted bike is under warranty. But buy a service manual.
Wiring diagrams are in the back, you could back trace the wires yourself and locate the common harness and plug. Be good for future reference.
I just had the very same problem with my 2002 Road King. When they installed the brake lever on the handle bars they pinched a wire and it finally chafed through taking out the accessory fues. After removing the brake lever from the handle bars I found the wire that was shorting out. I fixed the wire and now all is good.. On my way to Sturgis on Friday. Good luck with your bike...
