Well ride a 2011 FLTRU and did most of the servicing myself in the past but this time I did not have the tools to rebuild the forks or handle the steering head bearings. So arrange for the bike to be picked up by the dealer. Bike went in on March 8 and today,, yes almost three weeks later it is done!!! I had called multiple times,, stopped by multiple times, and kept getting excuses after excuse why it was not done. The ONLY additional item i had them do was put on a new tire. Now not HD Brand but Michelin so they had to order. So after almost three weeks I called today and they go,, yep all done just need to wash ,, but our wash rack is busy so if you want you can pay and we will give you a wash voucher for later. Hell I was out an about so stopped by and paid for the service. Yep $1992 later I was out of there... to do this 50K service and mount a tire what a pain.. No communication to me unless I called them. If you can not tell, I am monster pissed and this will be the last time the local dealer gets my bike for anything. OH and checking on the bike they broke a wire on the Custom Dynamix bag lights I had and they wanted to order the replacement part.. I was so ticked I said NO FN WAY !!! OK so now have a cold beer in my hand and just had to yell out,, what a crap job.. Three weeks for a simple service..
What did they actually do for the 2000 bucks? The 50k service, what was involved?
I mean, ok the fork rebuild and the head bearings are a few hours just for that, I reckon 3.5 - 4 hours to strip the front down and rebuild the forks, maybe on a faired machine. Then maybe an extra 1.5 hours to replace the head bearings as they have everything tore down already; then you're an hours labour for the tire change I reckon.
So you're 6.5hrs labour I think outside of the service work, so thinking (Ł70 an hour) - say 600 bucks for labour? (not sure what you get labour for in the US with dealers).
Fork rebuild and head bearings doesn't really use crazy specialist tools, fork seal driver maybe? Some drifts for the bearings....you probably could have managed it dude..
Sounds like a lot of money, but probably on point considering the amount of work; 2011 bike I'd be considering a non HD main dealer maybe? Are they much cheaper in the US than MoCo?
Crazy lead time for that kinda work though, should have been a few days tops if they had to wait for parts...
Way dealers are getting you are lucky they had the parts with out another 30 day wait for them. You have to search but you can find some good indy's. . Just do the home work lot of them a crooks also.
I broke a clutch cable and was in a bind for time so I took it to a dealer close by instead of a regular independent I use. I showed the service writer where the cable was obviously broke and told him to put a new one on it. I thought it was pretty obvious I didn't care about the price and wanted him to proceed. He said the first opening they had was in a week. Luckily I have two bikes so I said no problem. He called me the day he said they had the opening, and guess what, he told me the mechanic inspected it and it needs a clutch cable ( no ****? Really? ) and quoted me the price. I told him sounds good, can I pick it up tomorrow? He said no, they had to order the cable. It would be another two weeks.
I feel your pain. No customer service anymore, no sense of urgency and a high price to go with it. Unfortunately, it's pretty much everywhere now.
I once took my bike to the dealer to have a rear tire installed and while I was there I asked the service guy could they put a bolt in my front fairing that holds the windshield on my road glide thinking hey he will grab one and put it on there. Nope they charged 15 minutes labor plus $5.99 for the bolt. Cost me $35 for a front small fairing screw 🤦🏼
I knew the screw would cost something just didn’t know it would cost 15 minutes labor lol
Sorry the dealer left a bad taste in your mouth. It sucks when things don't go as planned. I have my 100,000 mile service coming up in about a month....not looking forward to the bill, but it's all apart of HD ownership....especially if you can't do it yourself.
