Default Another oil change

When I got my RG I moved the oil cooler and module out of the way and cleaned it up all around there. Whenever I change oil I shove lots of rags around that area and let it run out.

Today I tried the plastic bottle around the filter method but wasn’t too happy with it. I was just wondering what others who do their own oil changes do?

I always put the orange funnel looking tray thing under the filter while its still on the jiffy stand and then take a sharp all and poke a hole in the end of the filter at the six oclock position and one in the very center of the filter and let it drain and then remove the filter and never loose or spill a single drop!! no clean up needed at all!! just ads a few more minutes to your service!!
been doing this for years on heavy equipment and trucks and passenger vehicles depending on how and where the filters are located, saves allott of mess and clean up!!

I watched about 23 million oil changes as a service writer and all my mechanics ever did was a folded piece of cardboard under the filter, long enough to drain out into a catch pan. After the oil change, spray with the cleaner of your choice (simple green or S100) and hose off the area.

I've been doing that for years also...

Lately, I do my service on a level lift table with the front tire in a wheel chock. I tilt the bike towards the jiffy stand (it has straps on the triple trees)... and poke 2 holes. One at 6 o'clock and one at 12 o'clock....

My usual service is scheduled for after an afternoon ride... I pull the bike up on the table, and remove all three drain plugs. Several minutes later I put the orange HD funnel thing under the filter, tilt the bike, and poke the holes in the filter.. I then come back the next day to finish up.... everything is well drained by that point...

When I come back, the engine is cool to work on, and any residual oil is cool/cold and flows slowly if any is left to leak...

Works for me...

I use a lift table also, just drop it well its at a good angle to get every drop out and then place it on the lift, this is a good way to do this no oil on motor mounts or any where else!!

My oil change method ... loosen the filter so you can turn it by hand but it doesn't drip yet ... pull a plastic bag (HD, Walmart) over the filter and the filter mount ... unscrew the filter by hand ... let the filter and mess fall into the bag ... throw it all away ... I still get a little I need to clean up but nothing a blue paper shop towel can't handle ... I've used this method on Sportsters, Dynas, Softails, and Glides without probems

Relocated the Oil Filter on my Dyna .. Picture will show why even though only had 17,000 Miles on it .. Previous Owner did all his service at the HD Dealer but evidently they just let the oil run out as picture of the Front Motor Mount will show ..
