Sorry to see your bike (and hear about the poor dog).
Best advice I've received (and now pass on to students) with an animal vectoring in on you: if you can see it coming, keep a constant speed (or even slightly slow down), let them get a lock on you, then accelerate briskly, swerving slightly if needed. It throws off their perception and 'angle of attack' and they almost never recover enough to line up another angle before you're gone.
Youre lucky you werent hurt. The idiot dog owner is lucky it was someone that handled it as well as you. Unfortunate for the dog, the owner should be held responsible.
Always scary to read posts like this. Really glad you're ok and hat's off the the 1%ers who helped you out.
A few months ago my buddy was riding his road bicycle near his house in the East Bay Hills and large unleashed German Shepard attacked him and brought him to the ground. Same response from the owner, apparently it was my friend's fault that the unleased dog attacked him. Police came and same deal, very little recourse other than 14 day quarantine for the dog.
What's that saying, there are no bad dogs, just bad owners?!?
damn..glad you ok. bike can be replaced. don't know if you did but I would have taken more pics of the scene, the guy and the poor dead dog. may he RIP cause I love them all.
ride safe
When I was about 20 yards from them , the dog started running twords me crossing the street.
once you looked at him at that range it was game over. its hard and takes skills and practice to dodge hazards. I really appreciate you sharing your experience.
I am on my 4th generation dog wise of owning Rottweilers. My dogs are well behaved and trained but are never off leash unless they are fenced. I have zero empathy for that dog or it's owner. Had that happened to me I would have beat the **** out of the owner with every bit of strength I had left after that after knowing that the dog was disposed of. That would be an assault charge I would wear like a badge of honor.
