Glad to hear you are OK and that things will work out. I wish we'd start throwing the book at unleashed dog owners - they should be held responsible for any action the dog takes as though they did it themselves. IMO, this should be at least an assault charge. Having had to deal with off leash, aggressive dogs several times over the years, I have no sympathy for the owner at all.
Makes me glad the pit bull near my office quit chasing at me and now just likes to run next to me when he sees me. I've been doing 30 and he can keep up for a little bit. Your story will help to remind me to watch for him more. He's surprised me a couple of times with a slower car in front of me and been right beside me.
Thanks for sharing the story. Love the 1% part of the story too. Some of those guys can be pretty scary to look at but almost all will go above and beyond to help a fellow biker in need.
Glad you're okay OP, glad you were wearing all your PPE as well and stories like yours reaffirm why I went back to wearing a FF helmet, you just never know what might happen.
You also exercised a lot of restraint dealing with the angry dog owner, can't say I would have done the same, in fact I know I wouldn't have.....
Glad you're here to talk about it,,, screw the dog,, and the guy.If the guy owns a home, his HOMEOWNERS insurance will likely be responsible. Otherwise, sue the hell out of him. IF he doesn't own a home. I say this because my boy hit a car after his bicycle brake cable broke,, thank God he was fine, but 800.00 damage to a car. The police said I'm responsible. I called my homeowners insurance and they picked up the claim.
I really dont have alot of recourse against him. He has no ID, the police officer who went to his house that he is renting, said the place is a dump.
I was also told that I could go after him in civil court, but he will probably just disappear.
My insurance said they will look into it, but it sounds like they just want to handle it themselves.
I should find out early next week weather it will be repaired or a total loss.

you say that like it's a bad thing. if he moves on, at least he'll be out of your area.
I agree with a previous poster about how dogs "vector" or figure out their angle of attack. They really do it instinctively but as the poster wrote..IF you vary your speed while they are trying to intercept the dog will usually mess up the angle and you can escape......"usually".
