I just last week had to have my LH switch pack changed. Not starting in gear is the prime issue. Mine also would shut down completely coming to a stop, no power, no lights no anything, then after a few minutes it would start. Lastly the gear indicator would jump around from showing 3rd, to first to 2nd, crazy ****.
If you can find that switch pack have it changed. It was about $225 and my dealer only charged me a half hour installation.
They are hard to find so I wouldn’t delay in locating one.
Good luck
If the bike starts in neutral then that would eliminate the neutral switch.
It points to the clutch switch but unfortunately on a CAN bus bike it is not a switch per se but a device that sends a command to the BCM to be interpreted.
Do all the other switches on the right hand side work? Do you have any error codes?
I believe the all of the switches do work but I’ll double check tomorrow. Have not pulled codes yet but have a look at that as well.
I found some info from Fuel Moto that explains how to get the codes as well as what each one means so maybe I’ll get a clue there.
If the neutral safety switch is bad the bike will only start in neutral and not in gear. My 18 street glide did this on my way to Daytona this year. Still haven't swapped it out, bike won't start in gear but does in neutral. My cruise also works. Dealer told me this issue is very common.
If the neutral safety switch is bad the bike will only start in neutral and not in gear.
If it is bad such that you don't get the lamp on the dash the BCM will think the bike is in gear and ought to then only start if you pull in the clutch.
Can you start your bike with it in neutral? I don't think you have actually said or not.
A timely thread for me!
Purchased a 2016 CVO Limited in January, I'm still getting to know it.
It wont start in Neutral
Glad to find out it is somewhat common
is the safety Interlock the same as the Neutral safety switch?
Thanks to all!
This tells me the clutch switch is faulty in some way.
Above others have already mentioned trouble with the module in the hand controls.
I wouldn't just guess at this point but get a dealer to diagnose. Hopefully they only charge for the part that actually fixes the fault and not other parts they might have used along the way.
