Default Slip-ons keep slipping off....

Yesterday I installed V&H Oval slip-ons to my 07 Road Glide. The left pipe continues to slide off after 20 miles or so. I've tightened it down using 2 1/2" sockets to no avail, thank god I didn't lose the muffler, it just serperates and dangles inches above the ground....anyone have suggestions for me Thanks

Did you use new H-D clamps (better than the V&H ones)? The are the best andbe sure you tighten them to 60 ft. lbs.

I second that...the clamps that come with V & H slip-ons are crap - best to use the old clamps or run down to the parts department of the local H-D dealer and buy another set. You can really torque those babies down - and you need to..!!

go to a hydralic hose company and buy some T-BOLT CLAMPS.....it doesnt have that stupid limiter between the halves, just a threaded bolt which allows you to CRUSH the slip on if you like.....install it right out on the end so's you can see a small slit on the slip on side...crank er down using CopperSeal gasket maker

I coat the bolt with "neversieze" but a drop or two of oil will do. It helps you crank on the nuts. I also found that most of the squeaks on my RKC are from the rubber mounts under the saddle bags. I put some silicone grease on them and slid them into the rubber mounts. I hope it lasts.

Sounds like it could be a serious problem if slipped out and dangled down enough to catch some asphalt. Probably launch you and your passenger off the bike.
I would drill a small hole and fasten it with a zip screw (1/4" self tapping screw) or a small rivet and that will make DAMN sure it doesn't slip out again. You could place the screwso that it is aiming towards the lower inboard side of the pipe and then slip the clamp on so the screw head is hidden within the gapin the clamp. No one will know it's there and you'll know the pipe isn't going anywhere.

Could it be that there is to much clearance where the pipes join?If there is you can get some stainless steel shim stock to close up the clearance.
