I have a 2017 Ultra and I'll need new tires later this year.
I live in Northern Nevada and in this area almost anywhere you pull off of the main road results in having to ride on dirt or gravel. I wanted to know if anybody has ever put a set of Dual-Sport style tires on a Glide to make it a little more sure footed once you leave the pavement.
I asked one of the guys at my local dealer if he had ever heard of anyone trying it. He said he'd never heard of anybody doing that, but he seemed very intrigued by the concept.
I did a check of some on-line tire supplies and it seems like there are some front tires that would be compatible, but there were very few 16 inch rear dual-sport tires, and the few I found seemed narrower than than the stock Ultra tire.
I'm obviously not looking to go off-roading on my Ultra, but I just don't want to dump it in the dirt or gravel when I have to pull off on a side road, dirt shoulder, or gravel parking lot which is almost unavoidable around here.
I'm wondering if anybody else has ever tried this and if they could give me feedback on how it worked out and what tires they used?
There's a guy in Australia on YouTube, Million Dollar Bogan, who frequently takes his Road King to places a Road King shouldn't go. His dealer, Geelong H-D, installed some dual-sport tires on his bike. I tried getting a closer look at the tires in a few of his videos, but I couldn't see the brand.
I know it's a long shot, but you could try giving them a call or message them.
If its just worry about pulling off on dirt shoulders or gravel parking lots, I wouldnt sweat it. Now, if you rode regularly for miles on soft packed roads, its a whole different animal.

My brother back east is a Gold Wing guy and he he went Darkside a few years back, albeit with road tread tire. He says it works great and he has no qualms about running a car tire. He says the bike handles great and the tire wears like iron.
I've given it some thought, but I'd have to ride a Darkside bike to be convinced.
It probably would offer more options though.
Thanks!
