Is there some problem that was born with the 2007 models that I have not expereinced?Call me stupid, but it seems like a "fix" for something that wasn't broken and not only are they making $$$ on the "conversion kit", it's a perpetual revenue stream, as the isolators will need regular replacement. I can't wait to see how much they charge to replace them, while the wheel is off for a tire. I bet it's an extra hour labor to install a bag of rubber widgets that are manufactured for $1/set and sell for $59.95....
What am I missing?

That's what I was thinking! This to me seems like a lazy band-aid from HD.
I don't have any issues with my 07! It rides like all hell. I just came back from three days of pure bliss on the Blue Ridge/Sky LIne. No problems with anything....
So... I should not buy one becauseyour bike runs perfect? I don't get it.
If some of these guyswant to spend 216 bucks on a band aid let'em.
What I also don't get is some people trying to make people feel bad for buying Harley's fix for the problem.
What am I missing?

Why is this so intriguing?

Cool.. an IDS would be a complete waste of money for you. Go get some chrome instead...

The last sentence in my post was "tongue in cheek". I am not sure all have issues, and truly believe that some is due to riding style and past experience with HD's. The 07's are different, run different and sound different. If someone wants to add a potential "maintenance item" to their bike, and they believe that it will fix any and all issue with clatter and clunk, then they should go for it. If my tranny doesn't come apart with this build, none should. I would not spend the money - my .02 worth, but HD has em out there and some will buy and install and swear by them. Everyone can make their own decisions.
I don't believe it would be a great waste of money. Nor do I believe there is as bad of a problem as some folk's believe. I think this mod would make a great running M/C just that much better. However, I myself would not install this IDS on any bike that has been highly modified . But for a mildly mod'd bike, I think it would be very benificail. I just wish someone could tell me if it can be installed on after market wheels. Putt
I installed the Isolated Drive System on my 2007 Ultra classic, so here is my evaluation of it. After the wheel is removed it is about a 45 minute job to get the wheel ready to go back. Instructions a very clear and donât need any special tools except for a press. The large spacer on the left side of wheel is replaced with a thin spacer. Bolts come with lock tight on them. Unit seems to be very well made.
Putting wheel back on is a little tight because the large spacer on left is gone but with a little patience it is accomplished. Be sure to have the sprocket seated all the way because it is free floating.
Rode the bike and saw an immediate difference. The bike seems to have a different personality. The noise that was there due to lugging is gone. In 5th gear the compensating sprocket noise is completely gone. 6th gear I lugged the bike down to 40 mph @ 1500 rpm and it was quiet. I did this on purpose to see if the compensating sprocket would start hammering. It was quiet. Put it on the Interstate at 75 mph in 6th gear. It was a totally different bike.
In my opinion, this is the best improvement that Iâve made to this bike. At first I was a little hesitant because of the price. It is well built and most important makes a good bike even better.
What parts are pressed to what other parts? I have two wheels that I'll be rotating and will be moving the pulley and brake rotor each time. Will this kit accommodate such a procedure? IOW, can the IDS be removed easily when swapping between wheels, or must it be pressed out and in each time.
As for suggestions HD should foot the bill for '07 owners, I think they should consider a goodwill warranty for all those who complained about the clattering issues from the outset. I would be happy for a major discount, like 50%, as I don't think HD should profit from engineering flaws.
I posted the to let some folks know about the product. I am not a Harley Rep, nor do I claim to know everything about a Harley like some. I really dont care if you like it or buy one. you can test whatever you want I could care less.
