I have one of these on order for my 07 RK Classic. I'm wondering what type of press is required to put the bearing in the sprocket.
Is this something I can accomplish by heating the sprocket and cooling the bearing, or will I need to take it to a shop to get this done.
This looks like a worthwhile mod to a scoot I already love. I don't mind spending a few bucks to make a great bike better, and don't care to get into the HD quality arguements. I knew my 05 Sporty was going to need things from the beginning, so goes the RK.
Everybody repeat after me; the IDS is not a fix, it is a band aid on a much deeper problem. Has any body paid attention tothe wild tolerances found with these 07 tranny/engine? Correctly build the engine/tranny and you won't need the IDS (band aid). Also, the IDS (band aid) doesn't do anything to correct the out of spec engine/tranny, and neither will the IDS (band aid)prevent the engine/tranny from coming a part, which will be sooner than later.
I have to agree with RMSURVEYORS. I own a 02RKC and i rode my buddies 07RG yesterday.. I couldnt believe the comfort BUT at the same time that rattle seemed to be there from 4-6th gears. Considering the bike is 2 weeks old i dont see why it should rattle that way unlessHD built something wrong,, i am no engineer but for 19-23 K i shouldnt have to hear a rattle that loud in the top gears... One more thing,, if i need to keep the rpms up so it wont rattle wont i be wasting more gas instead of saving it witht he extra gear???
I don't have a problem with my 07 and will keep it the way it is........but why are they putting them on the 08's? I'm sure they don't add items and costs for something that isn't needed or doesn't do anything???
rmsurveyors, you sure like that band aid word thing don't ya?
IDS or what ever HD calls it has been around for decades. On Metrics! they hold up well and should, considering most crotch rockets pull much heavier torque and horsepower loads, last quite a long time
I'm sure the IDS has been around for awhile, but it was never intended to be a fix (as some have called it) for the type of clatter noise that many of the 07's are experiencing. If the bike is properly built you wouldn't even be thinking of adding this contraption. Also, before you sink more money into these clatter wagons for the IDS, you better read some of the posts regarding those who have bought the 08's, which has the IDS. Apparently the clatter is still there on the 08's even with the IDS installed. These guys don't like it, but for over a year now I and many others have been preaching about the 07 clatter wagons, and how MOCO has screwed their customers. But some people just don't listen or just think all of us with the 07's have nothing better to do than sit at our computers complaining about a non-existent clatter noise. Anyone who after hearing about all the 07 issues, and still went ahead and bought one of the 07's, and now the 08's, can blame no one but them-self. They were forewarned!
Not to start an arguement with anyone, but if your worried about the wear and tear of the rubber, stop there!
Your "tour bike" is rubber mounted and you're not b!tchen about that rubber wearing out! Some of you will getaway with never replacing the mounts, others will have to replace themaround 80 K miles! To me, its just the luck of the draw. Some 07's have the rattle and others don't.
I just can't believe that the IDS is the MOCO "bandaid" fix for the 07's and up! Myself, I just changed tranny oil and used the "Heavy Shock Proof" oil that is made by RedLine. If you have problems finding it check out www.jegs.com I thought they had good prices and shipped the stuff out FAST! This seemed to work great for my 07....
I hear what you're saying... but the fact that some of these bikes were not built properly or whatever is really outside the point here. Not to mention its pretty common knowledge after a year of all this bitching.
The point is that we got one guy that installed an IDS and sez it makes a big difference.
So for 200 bucks whats the beef? I'm supposed to sit around here until HD gives me a proper fix? Maybe they'll come by my house and fix my tranny tolerances...
I'm not sure what your point is because we've been preaching that HD should have fixed out bikes for over a year now and NOTHING has been done about it.
Now HD gives us this "maybe fix" and everyone is all down on it. I don't get it?
I can wish all day for HD to give us all new bikes but until that happens I have 200 bucks....
I'll let ya'll know.

I would appreciate some cold hard indepth honest to goodness insight when you get yours done. Don't pu$$yfoot around, tell it like it is when you get yours on. Thanks.
I will... no problem! I'm not expecting a miracle but who knows. I won't BS ya. I still love the bike no matter what. But for 200 bucks...shoot I'll give it a try. I spend that much just walking into a HD shop anywhere.
Problem is I'm holed up in a hotel room on travel in San Diego for the next three weeks. It will have to be some time after that...
So.......... anyone got a spare bike and would like to show a brother around San Diego? This place looks like is could be some very interesting riding! The weather is awesome here.
