Default DROPPED THE SOB!

Well, I dropped my RK. [:@]
I'd read others having problems with their pant leg getting caught in their heel shifter and I was experiencing the same thing.
I lowered my heel shifter a few inches and that helped with the problem.
However, it obviously did not eliminate the problem.
Since moving the shifter about a month ago my pant leg had not gotten caught once.

Was out riding with some buds today and came to a stop behind a left hand turning truck.
I tried to put my left foot out and the pant leg was caught in the heel shifter!
Couldn't get it out in time and without my foot as leverage that heavy RK just kept right on going.
THANK GOODNESS: NO DAMAGE (to me or the bike).
My buds had hopped off their bike and had my bike back up before I could even dust myself off and get off the road.
Quick review of the bike on the side of the road -- not a scratch.
Better review now that I'm home -- still could not find a scratch.
Very luck! I guess it helped that I was at a complete standstill when the bike fell over.

For the record == my jeans are not bell-bottoms or anything other than normal blue jeans. The wind just seems to have carried them up and over the shifter.

BTW: Anyone thinking of removing their engine/bag guards for a cleaner look...DON'T!
Those things just save me mucho $$$ in repairs after today's mishap.

Glad to hear no damaged parts. Went thru something similar but with a set of new boards on the rear of the bike. I've got a large 12W foot and it got hung up on a board and we were basically stopped or well very close to it lol and over we went. Right bag got nicked up a bit but it was already being replaced since it was scratched in shipment so no loss there. The bag protectors are indeed a good thing to have and I'll be adding a set to my RG.

They'da had to call 911 to get me out from underneath my bike before I let it hit the pavement. I'da looked like a mouse stuck in an elephants azz.

Glad you're OK.

Trash the heal shifter. Mine was left at the dealer when I purchased the bike.

I agree with gordon! I had the same problem wearing chaps. I have riden the bike wearing tennis shoes for short trips around home. Watch out for the shoe strings. They will do the same thing even with theheel shift lever removed.

Glad you're OK & didn't get a foot, ankle, or knee crunched under sumthin.....

Guess that;s another reason I prefer not having the heel shifter installed...

I guess you could use a take off on another joke and say there are only two types of bike riders--those you have dropped their bike and those who will. It happens to the best and the worst of us. Long as you and the bike are OK nothing is really hurt but your pride and it will heal nicely. Mine has at least one time on every motorcycle I've ever owned. Glad you're OK

Thanks folks.

That heal shifter is GONE!
I took it off as soon as the bike cooled enough.
I'll hold on to it in case I ever need to replace my toe shifter.

Is anybody who's removed their heel shifter running without any kind of shaft cover for the piece that the heel shifter was attached to?

I like where my toe shifter is positioned so I'm not interested in moving it out any. I justwasn't sure if that shaft cover HD sells is cosmetic or serves a purpose (keeps the toe shifter on).
This is the shaftcover I'm speaking of:http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
