Anyone else having trouble opening their fuel doors on the bagger models. I've got a Electra glide ultra, my buddies have an Road Glide Ultra and the other one has an Road Glide special, we're all having problems with the push button on the fuel door, sometime s it works other times not. Anyone else have the same problem and if so what's the fix.
Thanks In Advance Jonnierock
To all forum members... not just you, when you post a question regarding a bike, it is always good to know what it is we are working on. Is it a 1948 or a 2020?? What model (at least you included that)?? Try to lube it on both sides and get back to us. A better description would also help. "it doesn't work" tells us ****. Button doesn't press down? Button presses down fully but nothing happens? Button presses down fully and unlatches but door doesn't pop up, have to pry it??

My buddies bike was doing that and we lubed the hinges and took a 90* flat head and bent out the lips that push the door open to give it more pressure. It worked good and hasn't been a issues again.

I had this problem on my '14 Limited. I'd push the button, but the door wouldn't pop open. I found the two hinge screws had become loose. When I tried tightening them, one of them was stripped out. I ended up using some slightly larger machine screws. Haven't had any issues since.

ive also found that if the door locking mechanism has shifted off of straight that it will affect the opening and closing. i loosened the locking nut, lined up the locking mechanism and then tightened it back down again. no problem since.
i also do check the screws for the hinges at every service to make sure they haven't loosened up, and a quick shot of lube too.
The spring that pops it up gets weak over time. You can bend the tabs out some and give it more spring to pop up. I assume that's what you're talking about.

Thanks for the tips guys! Mine has been hit and miss lately (mostly miss). When it did pop open, it was barely 1/4". A 90° flathead made it easy to get behind the tabs and give them a gentle tweaking.
I'm happy to report it now pops open about an inch, first time, every time.
