But there is the conundrum....

The "old guard" Harley lovers are aging... The newer generation, the few that ride anyways, are looking for a different experience than those of us who started riding in the 60's and 70's...

My 2016 Bagger, compared to my '78 FXS, is a quantum leap in comfort, and technology. And yet I'd buy another '78 FXS in a minute, if I could find a good, unmolested one out there... I am a rare case...

Harley needs to change to keep up with current expectations...

I personally believe there is room for old style bikes and new style bikes in the Harley line-up.... I believe they will need this to survive into the future and attract new riders...

I think they did a great job on the Pan American bike... but I neither want, nor would I ride one...

Putting that engine in a touring bike with a real, OEM suspension... if executed to the level of the Pan American... could attract a lot of new and younger riders...

While I will probably not buy another new Harley (for various reasons), I'd like to see Harley succeed...

Huh? HD did build a bike to compete with BMW...
"Harley people" didn't think they wanted an Adventure bike but somehow we got one. HD people and others are buying it and it pretty much rocks per the reviews...

I'm all for having options. If HD came out with something to compete with the Gold Wing/K1600 crowd, I'd at least look at it. Never crossed my mind to check with the "Harley people" first...

So maybe more wishful thinking but what if there is something new coming, a new segment...like a "sport touring" with the rev max engine and some real suspension. The HD video clip says "Further, Faster"...nothing they've showed us so far goes any further or faster. And the wording in a release from my local dealer today says "the carry-over models have been announced". It's free to dream.

BMW built a bike to compete with Harley, not sure how its selling. Haven't seen any on the road anywhere.
