Default I am removing fork fangs

I removed the fangs while I was putting everything together after bars install. I wanted to really see the temperature difference without them. I have to say, it’s quite a lot. Went for a ride and temps on the PV never went above 260 degrees. With fangs installed, I would constantly see 320. That is a big jump and it’s not even that hot. I would imagine it would be higher if I was in a warmer climate.

Another thing I also noticed was, with fangs, if I put my legs out on the highway pegs, the airflow obviously changes right into my face. Without fangs, no issues.

So, I am going to save them for colder days. Just wanted to report my findings for those who still think about buying them. They do work great, but the higher engine temps worry me.

Thanks. That is what has kept me from getting them so far… living and riding in So Cal, more often the days are pretty hot and I don’t want to elevate the engine temps.

I may get a set and do as you are - install during the cooler periods or when we are going to cooler climes.

I have the H-D fangs. I’m not worried about engine temps. H-D designed them. If they would cause engine problems they wouldn’t sell them. The engine may run a little hotter but the benefits of no buffeting is worth it

They also designed a transmission and primary that seeps fluid from one place to another 😂

I get what you are saying. But damn, it gets a little hot with them on, but they do work amazingly for buffering. I am going to see how it is without them, now that I sit little back and upward.

I refuse to run fangs simply because they're ugly.

I would get nailed hard with buffeting when I stretched out on highway pegs. Adding lowers cured that.

Fangs are Fugly, and I can't risk my 128 getting smoked. I have a combo I am working on that I hope helps with the buffeting. OP and I have similar set ups with windshields, etc., and should have the rest of it on this weekend for a test ride...

I’m from the northern tier of states and I run them in the spring and fall but take them off in the summer to help cool the bike.

I dunno, I was riding in 100° temps this weekend, didn't notice anything extreme. Yeah they're ugly but I'm not getting beat in the head and my glasses stayed on. I just can't believe after all these years that HD has done nothing about it except fangs.

Thanks for reporting back sir! Great information! Just have a few questions. When you checked your temps, were they one the same day under the same conditions? That seems like a lot of temp difference. Also, how long does it take to swap them out or put them back on? Wondering how difficult it would be to ride the same route in the same day at around the same outside air temp to REALLY see what the actual temperature difference would be under close to identical conditions? I'm just weird that way, lol. The guys at work used to bust my ***** because I would make them "Double Verify" everything they repaired and told me that it was good.

I'm WAAAAY more worried about engine temp where I ride than I am about getting some wind in my face. I'm on a motorcycle at 80mph for christ sake, lol, it's gonna be a little windy out there!

I bought the fangs to just use in the winter months, but just had too much front end turbulence going around trucks on the frwy. Went with the GADS deflectors and have been very happy with them, summer and winter.
