Hi everyone, this is my first touring bike and I’m not sure what is causing my issue. I have another bike, 2002 V-Rod, and I don’t have any problems at all riding it. Since I bought the Ultra, every time I ride for an hour or more I has problems with my neck hurting. I have been reading other forums and see others say that changing the bars will fix the problem and others say the seat. I just want to get some feedback from people that actually ride and have the same problem. Thanks for all input.
“Neck hurting” is a bit ambiguous… can you be more specific? From all my years of experience, seats cause discomfort in the buttocks and lower back areas - bars typically cause discomfort in the shoulders, arms or neck. It could even relate to your foot/leg positioning - they all factor in to spine placement and thus impingement on nerves.
Riding position is key - there are some sites I’ve seen over the years helping to explain proper riding positioning, if you’re not familiar, and especially related to bar positioning and fitment.

I can ride for an hour and my neck hurts like I slept wrong. Then it takes me about 3 days to get over it.
Shoulder pain is often attributed to improper setup and riding position. Before you spend any money on bars, seats, gel pads, footboards (you get the idea), try adjustments to seat and bars. Start simple and ride after each minor adjustment. Sometimes it takes a bit to get things dialed in and usually they're relatively minor things.
Here's a good article from the boys at DK Customs - they are a sponsor and great bunch.
How about having someone take a picture of you sitting on the V rod like you are riding it, and do same on your other bike and compare your position on both to figure what might be wrong?
