I am having the exact same problem on my 02 Road King. I got the starter relay yesterday. I'll put that in and hope that's it, however, I can't get the starter out to see if any damage has been done to the starter gear. I have all the hardware off but the starter will not slide far enough to the right to raise it out of it's location. I'm thinking that the starter gear is still extended, will need to be retracted to pull the starter itself out....good luck amigo.

I had the same problem, everyone said I pinched a wire at the switch housings but that isn'twhat it was. I just unplugged the wire from the solenoid to keep it from starting. Come time to start it I'd just touch the wire to the solenoid. It was a lot of trouble. Finally got tired of it and started seriously checking it and found the starter button itself to be the problem. about 40.00 dollars and an hour or so to change.
