Default Dyna Shocks On A Bagger

Found a sweet local deal on some gently used 13” Progressive 444 shocks for a 07-17 Dyna…tell me they are a good or bad idea for my 07 Street Glide!? How much different is the internal vavlving between the Dyna and Touring models in the Progressive 444 lineup?

I recently upgraded (or thought I did) to the stock adjustable shocks from a 19 Ultra Limited but I swear they’re worse than the 14 year old Showa air shocks I removed…

Don’t know about the Dyna to bagger comparison, but buddy of mine tried Sportster 412’s on his Dyna and and couldn’t ride it cause it sagged down so bad with him on it (he’s about 200lbs maybe less). I can’t imagine how bad a shock from Dyna would sag on a bagger frame….

Don't know about the valving differences, but keep in mind that the shocks are designed for specific model bikes for a reason. Different weights make a HUGE difference in how well they work, or do NOT work. Myself I'd stick with shocks designed for my bike.

It isn't just the weight that's different, the angle of the shocks has a lot to do with how they function. IE they are different between a Dyna and Touring model.

CR, I have lowering blocks on mine, '08 FLHT., using the 1 inch lower spot. I rode with my new coil over shocks for a few miles over different road surfaces, then removed the blocks, to go back to stock setting. Road the same roads and couldn't tell any difference between them with such a small angle change of the shocks. But I think you're probably right, because I seem to recall the Dynas having a steeper shock angle than the touring bikes to begin with.

As long as the spring rates are good then I see why not

Guys keep in mind there is much more to shocks then springs. You have to take into consideration the valving for the different suspension geometry and weight of the bike. There is also different strokes on the shaft and length of the shaft for each model based on the suspension travel. You cant just switch shock because you think they will fit or they are close in length.

Won't swap. I tried a set of 444's off a dyna on my shovel, bikes weight the same, they bottomed out soon as I dropped the jack.

As several have said already there's a number of factors that make a shock work for specific applications, one size does not fit all.
