Default Fuel “winterising”

I am sitting here and thinking…since I am still little confused about this. My bike is put away for winter. I have it plugged in and filled up with fuel to the rim, covered. I didn’t add anything to the tank for the reason that from what I saw from various videos, none of these fuel stabilizer did anything in tests. The main things for them was to supposedly protect the parts and also, help with separation of water. But, that was shown to fail in tests done with many main manufacturers. So this leads me to my question…What the hell
do I do with this gas in my tank when the season starts? If I start it up, all that separate liquid will go right through the engine. No? If adding these liquids doesn’t do squat, then is it Ok to start this thing up anyways?

I am sure most of you saw this video:

Personally I've always added 1 oz of Seafoam per gallon of fuel before I "put mine away" for the Chicago winters. I add it at the same time I fill it up for the last time and ride a few miles home so it mixes well and some gets into the fuel system.

Having said that, even untreated fuel probably won't go bad in the short 4 months it's stored......so, I do it to help prevent any moisture build up in the tank. But keeping it topped of, as you do, is also excellent. To my way of thinking adding Seafoam to the fuel for winter storage can't hurt.

My advice.....go ahead and add some Seafoam....can't really hurt. Of course if you plan on storing LONG TERM like 12 months+ that's a different story.

This is only for winter. As soon as the weather is nicer in March or April, it’s riding time! So, no long term storage really.

I also use stabilizer to winterize my bikes like Rob175. Four or five months later I am riding again. Been doing that for decades with no noticeable negative effects.

I will keep doing it for another 30 years and report back...

Seafoam and top it off. Battery on tender. Spring comes, hit the starter and away I go

I have had gas sit in various items for longer than 4-5 months. I think you will be fine. I would crank it up between now and riding season if you have access.

As some stated above. I change all fluids, top of gas, add 1oz of Seafoam, take a 10 minute spin, back to the garage and on the tender. When spring comes I add 2-3 ounces of octane booster and off I go. Been doing this here in West Virginia for over 25 years and never an issue. Works for me anyway. 👍👍

I add Stabil to all of my bikes/vehicles that get stored in the winter. I have used Stabil treated ethanol laced fuel that was over two years old and had no problems!

Stabil for me, too. Haven't had a problem for many years with mowers, snow blowers, power washers or my motorcycles. Non-ethanol is not an option around here.
