Just back from our first real long trip; 2,500 miles in 10 days, had a great time, but my and my wifes right ears are ringing even with ear plugs and full face helmets. I currently have the "not for street use" touring SE slip-ons from about the 2002 time frame. They sound great in town, but after 8 hours on the road,I can't hear anymore.
I understand they make a street legal SE slip-on, anybody have those, any recommendations on a "not so loud pipes save lives"?
S&S Stainless Ovals. Been running these for two years, nice low mellow
sound. Very easy on the ears. They are high polished stainless, look like chrome,
and still shine like new. Another high quality S&S product.
When cruising, you could easily carry on a conversation or enjoy your tunes.
I've grown pretty fond of the 1.5" baffles in my Rush pipes. I had 2" for awhile but they had my ears ringing after 40-50 miles, but that's not the case with the 1.5's. They're not much louder than stock at cruise, but still bark when you get on it. It also sounds like a Harley should at idle.
I have a set of touring slipons from an '07 SE Road King that I bought as takeoff's from my dealer that I ran for a few hundred miles before buying the Rush pipes. Slightly louder & deeper than the stock '07 mufflers, and a good option for someone looking for a quiet, nice looking muffler that you can listen to all day without earplugs and be no worse for wear than with stock pipes...

I don't believe any slipons that have the SE emblem on them are street legal.
They make some slipons that are HD labelled that are. (except California) Try Part # 65259-00.
With full face helmets and ear plugs you'll never hear 'em.
Hey I'm new to this board, so hello to all. I just put a pair of Pythons on my '06 RG. Nice rumble I went from sounding like a sewing (stock pipes) to a real motorcycle in about 15 minutes. I asked some other harley owners and they said to go with the SE air cleaner and get the stage 1 down load. I did and it feel like a new bike. The power is there and the rest of the street sleeps when I go to work at 3AM.
You should really get out to a HD event like a Bike Nite - Rally - Biker Bar even the Dealer on a Sat morning and sit and listen for the sound YOU'RE looking for... When ya hear it.... Ask the rider questions!!
H-D does now carry a set of SE sliponsthat are 50 state legal. They are just a bit louder than stock but will get a little louder once they are broke in good.
I opted for a set of D&D Big Boss slipons and had the Stage I huffer added with ECM re-map on my '07 UC, not to loud at cruise but will bark strong when you roll into it. Got a real noticable seat of the pants increase in performance from the combo.
