Default Center Stand Query

I've been looking at getting a center stand for my 2019 Road King, mainly for maintenance as I prefer this ease of this over a jack. I've seen the EZ up one but prefer the idea of the Harley one lifting the rear wheel without putting wood underneath, plus there's no UK stockist that I can find so the EZ up would work up more expensive.

However, when I googled the HD one got 2/5 stars but when I went on the site to see why it's rated so low the page cannot be found, and it's the same if I search directly on the HD UK website. I have stumbled across this video showing that the stand actually hits the crossover pipe on the touring models. My initial thought was user fitment error but they say the HD people can't figure it out either so is this the reason it's rated so poorly?

Yep ... That's the big knock on the HD center stand ....and they require more than a bit of muscle for some guys to use ... FWIW I have an EZ Up and it it works quite nicely .. even using the small piece of plywood to get the rear wheel off the ground is simple and requires very little effort

How about using a Condor chock for ease of maintenance? I prefer my jack for some maintenance and a chock for others

I have no experience with the stands.

Thanks. That's a bad design flaw from HD then

If I get a chock I still can't rotate the rear wheel. I did by one of those wheel spinners that takes weight up to 500kg but you can't spin the wheel once the bike's on it Another benefit for me of a center stand over a jack is lack of room in my garage, it's pretty full

I’ve got an EZ-Up on my 04 Road King. Picked it up on a lark at a swap meet. Turns out, I like it, a whole lot!

But…a Harley is one mighty heavy bike. The center stand doesn’t completely lift the rear tire off the ground. In fact that rear tire traction is how they say to get the bike off the center stand, you just drive it off.

Still, it’s a mighty convenient accessory. I use it more than I expected.

Get a piece of plywood, a condor chock with the trailer mount hardware and one or two of those cheap bike scissors jacks from Amazon

mount the trailer mount to the plywood

Set up the chock, drill a couple of holes in it, put some eye hooks in it

Roll bike onto 4 X 8 plywood and into the chock, strap bike into chock, jack under the center of the bike lift as needed....it will be pretty solid

If you need to remove the jack stuff a block of wood under the spare tire. Makes a 3 hole service simple

Even though I have a lift, and a Condor chock, I can put two of those cheap scissors jacks under either one of my baggers and pick both wheels up .... it is actually how I store my 13 for the summer when I go back to NH

I have that same stand on my EG and can say it does take some *** to get the bike on the stand. The lever is close to the pipe, but doesn't hit it. Once the bike is on the stand it is nice as it does lift the rear tire off of the ground and makes servicing easier.

Thanks. I’m 6’4” and weigh 252 lbs so I should (I hope) have enough ooomph to lift the bike. What I don’t want is to hear the stand rattling or knocking whilst riding.

From that video can you see why his hits the pipe and yours doesn’t? Has he wound the feet out too far?

His cross over is different than mine. Your height should definitely help. I'm 5'10 and 245.

Ahh right, yours is not the standard crossover so it’s likely mine (that’s standard) will still have an issue
