Default CD player -- anyone else having problems?

Okay, okay -- I know that the MP3 would solve all these problems, but I also think that if my '05 came with a CD player, it ought to work.

I've had it in the shop several times during the warranty period for the same thing: it stop, skips, and then just plain freezes up and doesn't play. Then on other occasions, it is trouble free (usually when I take it in to the dealer for this problem!). So finally, on the last week of the warranty period when I have it in the shop, they agree it cannot be diagnosed and remedied in the shop -- it'll have to be replaced. Yay... So I now have a "new" (rebuilt/refurbished model) that played great all the way home from the shop. That was Thursday. I went for a ride last night and the same problems erupted all over again.

Anyone else have this problem -- or did the CD demons choose to focus only on my bike????

I've had the same problems with mine too. It actually worked real well for awhile when I first bought the bike new but soon it started doing the same as you describe. I bought a CD cleaning disc that doesn't seem to help either. I think it's between the lens getting dirty and the vibration of the unit. I haven't resorted to an MP3 player yet because I'm like you, the damn thing oughta work. I hardly mess with it anymore but I plan on taking the fairing off again to check for broken or cracked brackets which might be part of the cause. Both of the brackets going to each speaker on the side were broken on mine. I found this out when I put new bars on my bike. Let me know if you ever come up with a fix and I'll do the same. I'll check the brackets later this week.

Actually, when they had my fairing off and were in there changing the bars, that is when I had them change out the radio. Seems there was some explanation that the steering head (?) had gotten out of alignment, and that may have caused the CD to skip and freeze. I didn't believe it when they told me (just trying to bilk HD out of some of that warranty money) and the subsequent -- and consistent -- problem seems to prove my doubt all along. What bothers me is that they put something on the bike that is prone to this kind of problem in the first place... Oh well, we shall see what they have to 'splain the continued issue on my next visit.
