That's just not true... they can last 100K miles.... a lot depends on driving habits and the year of your compensator...

If you signature is correct, and you have a 2001 bike, you have the good compensator... before HD "improved" it 2006/2007... I wouldn't change your comp unless you have a problem with it...

Those "improved" compensators, 2006 for Dynas and 2007+ for all other models, through 2010ish (maybe 2011), the OEM comps were problematic. Many had to replace them more than once...

They got better around 2010/2011 and with the Rushmores in 2014, they finally fixed the "improved" compensators... While not perfect, the 2014" comps were relatively trouble free compared to the '06/'07+ comps...

I've never heard that the comp will only last 10-15k miles but really should last the life of the bike. Where did you read that?

Your comp is fine. The ones they are scared of is post 2006. Which I got 70k on.

I would also think about stator if you got some miles on,just cause so easy to do.

I would do belt cause 30 years old. But you are only half way there and it is summer. I did mine based on age and miles.

I would do primary bearing.

When I did my belt I did tranny seals on main shaft. Harley says to replace sprockets which I did, but adds big expense. Plus getting tranny sprocket off can be a bugger.

Clutch and tranny/mainshaft sprocket are left hand thread. Tranny went to right hand. So check manual if you do.

Pulling primary is not awful. I used threaded rods to pull and install primary bearing.

I jam wood or plastic in primary chain to lock.

I'd think about waiting until winter. Need to figure out what is leaking so you can check level.

Everything is removed except the FRONT PULLEY SPROCKET NUT. I just ordered the socket.
So far it's a easy job.....just time consuming since I never did this before.

I'd replace main shaft seal, counter shaft seal, and quad seal if removing main shaft sprocket for the belt.

Yea anything rubber or plastic is getting changed out. I bought a kit but I don't think it has everything in it that I'm going to need....like the jack shaft bolt seal. Got that one locally.

You can guess until the cows come home where the leak is, but it really doesn`t matter.

No matter where the leak is, the inner primary cover is coming off, and at that point you might as well replace all the seals.

Starter jackshaft seal on primary cover.
Oil seal on primary cover.
Transmission sprocket spacer and oil seal.
Quad seal.
Shift shaft oil seal.
Main drive gear/mainshaft oil seal (wedding band seal).

Tools:
Primary drive locking bar.
1-1/2" socket (compensator).
1-3/16" socket (clutch hub nut).
Fabricate or buy the long socket for the transmission sprocket nut.

SERVICE MANUAL.

I just rebuilt my transmision and changed out belt on my 01 this winter. rubber isolators on the pivot shafter, both sprockets,. I did shift pawl spring, main bearing, clutch bearing, clutch discs. Inspect clutch before buying clutch bearing. My basket was wore out. After market came with bearing, but I had bought bearing a year ago.

How far you want to go is up to you. I had 90k and wanted to go through it. I also did stator cause really easy to do with primary off. And sproket shaft seal since stator was off. Not sure you want to go that far, especially in summer.
