I have an Ultra Limited that I run without the tour pack most of the time. I have no interest in putting it back on full time. I do occasionally ride with a rack on the back. I’m looking for a bag that will strap down to my rack so I have a place to put a full sized helmet when stepping away from the bike for a few minutes. I’d like to keep the size down as much as possible. The Nelson-Rigg Weekender might be an option but it looks a little oversized for my needs.
I don’t use a modular helmet a lot but would prefer to get it out of sight when I’m away from it. I’ve never lost my beanie helmet leaving it on the bike but a modular might be more tempting to some.
I don't have a pic but I use this H-D Day Bag. I'm not sure if H-D still sells them but it's small enough to fit my modular and a couple small items. I have a chopped TP I use on long trips but I sometimes use the bag as a daily trunk.
Since most on this forum probably has a tour pac that they can put the helmet in you may get limited responses.
Try posting your question over on the softail section as most softtails don’t have a tour pac so other means of helmet storage is needed
Road King here , when I leave my modular with my bike , I use a small cable lock and fasten it to my crash bar , cable goes through the D-link on the helmet . If someone wanted it , they would have to either cut the strap or cable . It's not a guarantee , but it'll make someone work for it , hopefully by then , someone will notice .
Is there any reason you can carry the helmet with you? I’m in the same boat. I went from an ultra to a RoadKing Special and I don’t have a secure place. When going to work it’s easy, but short trips to the store etc…. I have a lock that mounts on the crash bar but I would like a better way.
I slip the d-ring on the helmet strap over the ball on the end of the clutch lever then a small pad lock (usually used for luggage). The lock will go over the slim part of the lever but small enough to not slip past the ball.
Oxford Lid Locksand a modded Oxford Lid Locker (bag) here
the Lid lock T bar goes through the clasp (yes thieving monkey could cut the strap) ....and the Lid Locker (bag) has a cloth tube running through it for putting a full size chain through, so as to not get dirt on your inner lid.
As suggested you could run a full size through the closed chin bar (again thieving monkey could break the chin off) but I cut the tube out and poke the lid lock out the hole and attach to the bike (crash guard, bars etc)
use them all the time, whatever the weather (so that I don't scratch my lens or damage the lid) ....also protects against the weather obviously
the bags are non-descript and so monkey boy doesn't see a branded lid and think, 'av it!
