Default Scuff marks from Trunk.

Curious if anyone else has this. The black leather that is the passanger backrest when trunk opened shows white stuff on lower area. It rubs the front of the trunk every time it's opened and closed. I tried using polishing compound on trunk but scuff marks remain. White marks on leather wipe off easily. I assume it's clear coat from trunk. I also pushed hard on backrest part away from trunk to give more room. Pics have glare so not good but will show anyway. 1st one is backrest, 2nd front of trunk with long scuff marks.

Probably just road dirt collecting, especially if you have ridden in the rain. If I understand you correctly, the backrest covers the area of the trunk you're concerned about, so I personally wouldnt have an issue with it.

Lot of folks have a problem with the scuffing the seat makes on the tank, not much you can do about it, but I have the same attitude about that.

I have the scuffs on the rear fender but the seat covers it so...it takes a few years to get past the fussing over 'em and just ride 'em. You get to where you realize the only way to keep scratches off 'em is to not ride 'em...and some guys scratch the paint up polishing them too much

Yeah, road grime, dirt, sand etc. gets in there and the vibration scuffs it a bit. I've cleaned mine, put lots of wax/polish and even tried dry silicone spray trying to prevent the scuffs/scratches on my Tri-Glide.

If you really want to be OCD get some 3M clear paint protection and put in there. You can probably polish most of the scratches out and put the 3M stuff in there, but it will probably scuff the 3M plastic but protect your paint.

You can buy this in various sizes and cut to fit.

I have similar scuffing on my tour pack (though not as bad) but only see it with the lid open so I don't worry about it. As previously said, you end up with similar scuffing on your fuel tank sides where your pant legs tend to rub. I've discovered that the scuffing comes out easily with a bit of polishing using an automotive orbital polisher and some quality polishing compound. I then treated the surface with ceramic coating and have not experienced any further scuffing of the paint.

I think the 3M clear protective film is a good idea to protect from further damage but you will have to polish the hazed area out first.

I have also cut pieces for my front forks and placed it on the front of the lower sliders to prevent stone chips from nicking the clear coat and then starting the oxidation on the aluminum under the clear coat. I have found many uses for the 3M stuff and if you make a mistake, just peel it off and apply a new piece.

Yeah OCD will get you every time - lol

I notice the same marks on my trunk and I just don't worry about. Every time I clean my bike I notice scratches, pitting (front forks) and areas where the shiny black "chrome" is scuffed or dull. Another area that gets scuffed is the tank where the nose of the stock seat sits. I'm always switching between my stock seat and my solo seat and the scratches are visible with the solo seat, that drives me nuts.

Default Product to buff out scuffs

I have the 3m tape but had no luck using a polishing compound with fiber cloth to remove scuffs. Can anyone recommend one? Tried Carfident scratch and swirl remover but returning it. It's not swirls nor scratches but tried anyway.
