Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I rode home from work, stepped off the bike in the driveway to walk over to the garage door opener, and heard a loud crash behind me as I did so. Brain farted and didn't put down the side stand. It was a BMW GS though so damage was minimal, and I never did anything like it again in the the about 15 years since. I wasn't a total beginner either and had been commuting up and down the San Francisco peninsula every day for about 12 years at that point.

Had one more drop (also the same GS), when I got stuck in traffic on Hwy 84, on a very steeply banked corner. Couldn't slide off the saddle fast enough to get my downhill foot on the ground, and by the time I did the bike was way too far over already as it tipped downhill. (I did lean it into the slope, but not nearly enough; had planned to put down my right, uphill foot.) Over it went, then slid into the oncoming lane, on its side as I leapt out of the way... Ah well, live and learn.

Other than that, 150k mi of all-weather year round CA commuting and pleasure riding... no other accidents as of yet.

I thought I avoided all of them but when I stopped to let traffic clear before turning left, somehow my front tire stopped on a flat stone I had missed. The tire started to slide sideways and there was nothing I could do but slowly set the bike down in the middle of the intersection. I got it back up but of course I forgot to cycle the kill switch to reset it so I struggled to get it going. Once it was finally running I noticed to cop sitting at the light chuckling while I struggled

Second time was my new to me RGU that I had had for about a month. I didn't carry enough speed 2up into the driveway at home where I've pulled in probably 1000 times. It was hot and had been a long day and I clearly was too tired. My wife was not impressed. Lol
Hey the important thing is you hit the kill switch on the handlebars. And THAT boys and girls is why it's there! Cross Thread Points.

Lots of laughs reading this thread, not at anyone else, but at myself. Been there, and done that got the tee shirt, coffee cup and cap. Seems like its the 1 or 2 mph slow motion layover and, as for myself, the first thought is oh crap did anybody see me. Next thought is do I remember the youtube video on how a 100lb. woman picks up an FLH, then last I take inventory and decide if I hurt myself.

As said before...."we" fall into two groups, those that HAVE and those that WILL. Yes, it's very embarrassing and most who witness it have only picked up a fallen bicycle so they have no idea what's involved in up-righting a 700lb to 1000lb machine....they look on saying to themselves "what's the big deal!"......LOL

I worked with a very naive young lady that was raised in a sheltered church group. She got brave once and started asking me questions about my bike. One of the questions was "How much does it weigh?" When I told her she said "Goodness, how do you hold it up?" LOL!
