From my quick look at the DTT website, it appears you drill holes in the exhaust headers and weld nuts on to accomodate the oxygen sensors (I have an '06 RKC). Is this true?
Yes, that is true. Just about any muffler shop can do it and many of the newer exhausts have the "O2 Bungs" already installed.

Just in case my previous post sounded like I was saying that you could not get good rideability with PCIII / SERT / etc..... that was not my intent. I was just pointing out that dyno sheets mean nothing when it comes to how a bike actually "rides" day-to-day. Some turn out fine, some .... well, do not.

Thank you, sir. There is ome extremely interesting stuff on their site, including the tuning overviews, etc. In your opinion, if I have the PCIII and the access to what I consider to be competent (and inexpensive at $140) tuning, will I gain anything significant anything by switching to DTT after my build?

Depending on your build, how often you might wanna chnge a little something, and just what "you" want it to do... then it may or may not be with while. For "me", either the DTT or TMax would be totally worhtwhile. For someone else... it may not.

All I can say for sure is that they do work as advertised. The DTT takes a little more time & finese to get setup than the TMax. They are BOTH great systems and will keep your bike running the way they should.

I know I am not giving you a "black/white" answer, but it's really not a simple yes/no type question.

In my opinion, the DTT or Thundermax is going to do away with the power commander as we now know it. The PC's are just outdated, and in the long run will cost you more $$ when you factor in the additional tuning costs everytime you change something.

I had 3 dyno tunes done in the past year, at an average cost of $300 each, that's $900 I threw away and still didn't have a "perfect" running bike. Tack on the cost of the PC at $250, and that has put me at $1150......the DTT or Thundermax can be had for right around $700 from shooter64.

To know that it is constantly tuning for the AFR I have set in it, makes it worth it. At every throttle position and rpm range.........it's going to be tuned and adjusted properly for every day of the year (not just that given day on the dyno at WOT).

Now I just need to comvince myself to spend the money, it's looks like an awesome piece, actually if I could find someplace here in Wi close by that could assit in the install i think it would be going in this winter.

The install is not that difficult, although you MUST follow the directions. As for the initial set-up and tune once installed, I have helped two others through the process in about an hour or two by phone. As long as you are in front of your computer, it is not that hard, although a bit intimidating at first. Also, contact some of us before the install as there are a few issues with clearance of the sensors that must be addressed depending on the type of exhaust, oil coolers and other items that could cause clearance problems if the bungs are welded in the wrong place. Go hear for some info:

There are a number of us on the forum that can help with questions and concerns. I had to learn just like everyone else and now pretty much have it down to a science. I know Phil M, Spike CT myself, and others will help and dont mind spending the time. When you are ready for the instal, let me know or PM the others, bet they would be glad to help also.

Have any of you that have the DTT experienced any quality issues? I talked my local Harley dealer today and he said he has seen three DTT'S fail. His opinion was to stay away from them until the bugs are worked out. He said they made good power but would lose their tune??

I've installed or been directly involved with 5 DTT installs and many more "cyber-installs". I've never heard of a single failure.

I do know of one TMax that went bad.

What you said, Jeep, (units go bad or won't hold tune) sounds suspeciously like PCIII talk.... ????....

I haveover 5,000 miles on mine. I have not had any problems whatsoever (knock on wood). I personally know five others (all on this board) that have around the same mileage on their DTTswith no issues either. There have been some issues with throttlebodies and with IAC settings and TPS settings (first road test on a trip), but no problems with the DTT. None of these problems left anybodyon the side of the road. Ihave doneone big trip with this setup so far (3500 miles), and am completely confident in it.

Tim
I am far from a master of the DTT, I just installed mine this week.

If anyone is the master, I would point at PhilM.
