Have any of you that have the DTT experienced any quality issues? I talked my local Harley dealer today and he said he has seen three DTT'S fail. His opinion was to stay away from them until the bugs are worked out. He said they made good power but would lose their tune??
I'm going to say your dealer is scared of the DTT and Thundermax because it's going to take away from his dyno business. That's why he is still recommending the PC and SERT..........he can take money from people to dyno them.
I have an 07 SG. I hate to assume but here goes........I assume that my 02 sensors will be replaced with wide band 02's from the DTT?? Or does this unit bypass the 02's? And if I don't use the HD tuner, my warranty will be gone???
I will certainly be getting the T-Max or DTT for my ride as I talk my financial advisor (wifey) into the need for the investment. I remember reading a thread that compared the two systems, one for more radical builds and one for simpler builds.(cant seem to find it though) Where do you draw the line? Right now I have 103 kit with cam, a/c, and duels with slip ons. Is the DTT the way to go if I plan on changing the exhaust(thinking fat cat), cams and head work later on down the road? Is it that they will pretty much get the same thing done, but one is more user friendly and simpler to use?
Stephen ~ both unitsoffer substantial benefits to mild motors, but theDTT is probably better onmore radical builds. Froman "ease of use / installation" perspective, the TMax is probaby better although I have no direct (personal) experience with the TMax.... that's what I hear from the folks thatuse them.
Steve has installed both systems, so he can probably give ya a more informed opinion on the user friendliness on the two..
Ease of installation goes to the Thundermax.......it is plug and play. Now, maybe we were supposed to do some other adjustments, but PFD161 went over the instructions for 2 weeks prior to the install and he knew what to do, I was the mechanic.
From what I've seen, the DTT has many more adjustments and seems to be more thorough and in depth.
I'm a new guy to the forum and plan on doing pipes, tuner and stage 1 once the snow hits the ground and I have the bike in the basement for the winter. My problem is this...alot of this talk sounds intimidating for a first time bike owner. I planned on putting the pipes and stage 1 kit on myself and hooking up the tuner myself with a basic set-up downloaded. I then planned on hitting the dealership to pay for the dyno tuning...that was assuming I got a PCIII or SERT. Now that my eyes have been opened up to the TMax and DTT, I was wondering if this was doable for a guy with little or no experience with bike motors? I have a neighbor with lots of experience with bikes but he owns an Indian and has very little knowledge about EFI setups. Otherwise, I was also wondering about burning out the ECM on my bike (I think that's what it's called). The parts guy at the local HD dealer said that some tuners can burn out that part and it costs a few grand to put on a new one. Has anyone heard about this issue with either the DTT or TMax? Sorry about the long post, just had lots to get out (diarrhea of the mouth). Thanks.
I have heard of stock ECM's failing with add-on style tuners installed (like PCIII, FuelPak, etc), but the instances are VERY rare. Any piece of electronics can fail. Heck, one could argue that those ECM's may have failed with or w/o the device added. It's really difficult to say for sure. I have used PCIII's on several of my own bikes (and installed for friends) for years w/o a single issue.
I now have a DTT and love it.
As far as "a couple grand" to replace stuff.... that's gotta include some serious hours for incompetent service guys "looking" for the problem. I say "BS" to that statement. That's an HD "Talking Point" that is used to get your $$$ in their register instead of someone elses....
Both the DTT & TMax actually replace the stock ECM, so one could always just put the stockone back in the bike is he was so inclined....
I just installed the DTT with WEGO IID on my 07 SG, Rinehart True Duals and an SE-A/C. I tuned the idle mixture and let the DTT do the rest.
The heat difference aloneis very dramatic. The power and mid range are great. This bike runs like it should.
I can short shift, run 6th gear at 60MPH and it sounds great.
I`m waiting to see if they will have a DTT/TCFI III for my 08 Ultra. I know they will for the 07 bikes.
