Default Loose feeling in rear

Wanted to reach out and see what everyone’s thoughts are. I have an 03 FLHTC and here lately I have noticed the rear seems to “float”. I’ve got 2k on rear tire, I have checked pressure(40lbs), axel alignment is good. I’ve lifted it and checked for “slop” and can’t find anything but the slights weight shift seems to float the rear.

Sounds like swing arm bearings, I had the same feeling.

Bike on the lift, remove rear wheel and disconnect the shocks from the swingarm. Now push and pull the swingarm laterally to the frame, if you feel any movement, you have found your smoking gun. Mine moved about 1/16" and you could feel it move then a light clunk. Basically what I was feeling when riding into a turn.

Mine lasted about 60k miles so I just replaced with OEM and carried on. Many options for upgrades out there.

Agree , swing arm bushings , same thing , replaced mine at 20k , one was completely seized . I didn't have any play in the swing arm when I checked , but you could sure feel it when you rode . When I had new ones installed , I added a thin coat of axle grease to them , been great so far . I also replaced the rubber bushings , since I had it apart .

Bad shocks ??

thank you for this, I’ll definitely be checking this evening when I get home. Any bonus going aftermarket, or just keep stock?

You don’t need to remove the wheel or disconnect the shocks to check for play in the swingarm. You do need to slacken belt tension though.
