Because some people like to speak out, then back into a corner and make sure they have the validation of others. Typically, people like this don't stand by what they say and tend to follow the majority instead.

 

Personally I think it's just as ridiculous as those who wear leather jackets, Kevlar jeans and body armor in the blazing heat on the odd chance that they might crash! Hell, down here in Florida the heat stroke would probably kill ya' before you hit the pavement!
