Just got mine this week. Over the ear. Also, I don't wear them in my full face helmet. No reason to. I do have a Cardo unit which I can hear my wife on intercom, music, gps, phone calls perfectly and clearly without them in, as the speakers are next to my ears. I sometimes wear earplugs as well, but alas, years of gunfire, and motorcycles and the damage has been done.
when i had behind the ear aids they were a royal pain in the *** to wear while riding! full helmets with the headsets would pull them out when putting helmet on, then cause constant feedback issues. i ended up not wearing them while riding. i now have in the canal aids and dont get the feedback but i do get amplified wind noise. i had them programmed to cut wind noise to hardly anything and can now ride and hear the wife yelling about my driving and hear the radio! not really sure what the audiologist did to cut the wind noise but she nailed it!
I don't have hearing aids, but a good friend of mine does, and he rides with custom molded monitors in, not his hearing aids. I got to talking with him several years ago about these and the benefits. I decided I'm going to try it, so I went to a local audiologist and had custom impressions done. A month later I got them and I absolutely love them. They are tailored for motorcycle helmet use meaning low profile don't stick out. They filter out some 90% of background noise, like wind, exhaust, people talking etc. Connected to my Packtalk Edge, I hear my conversations on the intercom, my music, GPS, etc. I have to turn the volume down, because with the background noise so filtered out, you get so much more wanted noise, IE Music, Conversation on Intercom etc.
I'd highly recommend you look into this avenue. They ain't cheap, and don't go chip with some kit they mail to you, go to a respected audiologist near you, not some walmart hearing test. These are designed for your professional musicians that tour, etc. https://www.sensaphonics.com/products/erseriesplugs
I have over the ear type, if it's a short ride I just leave them on and mute them in the FF helmet otherwise everything gets magnified and the tinnitus would kill me.
