I have had several mods done to my 21 FLHXS except its handlebars. Kindly educate me why you opted to change it? What were your considerations? Has your new handlebar been a significant upgrade on comfort and style? How do you choose what height best suits you? What are the best handlebars in the market?
It was all about comfort for me. For the height I went with something that kept my arms straight in front of me and not too tall since I'm not a fan of tall *** bars with a fairing. My old softail had 4in riser and 16in bars and man i loved the way it felt. There are a ton of diff companies that sell good quality bars. I went with KST has have many others. If you don't want to mess with wiring look up Hill Country Customs. They sell pre wired ready to go bars but you're going to pay for it.
I usually have 16” ‘ape’ bars, but on my RGS, I went with 10” HD Fused Low as they didn’t put my hands up out of the fairing like 12” and taller would. The stock bars were weird after years of apes. I am of the opposite mindset, if my hands/arms are up and I feel fatigue on long rides, I can drop an arm down…try putting an arm up in the wind. I also feel I can handle bike better with taller bars…as far as best bars, that’s like best oil, everyone has a favorite. Not one is better than any other at end of day.
Tried 12” bars on a '20 FLHX for comfort, but my old shoulders didn’t like that, so I installed 10” KSTs. I’m 6’3”. Hands were still sorta behind the fairing so I liked that, and my shoulder blades were MUCH more comfortable.
Everyone is different , not only the height but the width also. I have a 21 Road Glide Special and went with Factory 47 10 inch. I am 5` 10`. Good luck with your search.
The stock bars gave me a lot of pain because of the wrist angle. I went with a few different ones and ended up with road 6 customs 13” standard apes. Fits me perfect. Be careful with some bars they are super wide.
