Default Back to a Road King (aka "On the Road-ie Again")

After selling my '16 RGU last year and having owned an '09 RK (FLHR) and '07 SG, I realized that I missed having a Harley in the garage as an "other end of the spectrum" bike to my BMW GSA. I am paying attention to what speaks to me. I had some excellent input as I searched for a Fat Boy since I have never owned one but while searching (thanks again, Hattitude!), I came across an '09 RKC that was priced fairly and I have an attachment to the '09 RK for some personal reasons...long story I won't bore you with here. So, while I feel a little sheepish veering off the Fatty and going back to the a Roadie, this one just struck me...from a dealer no less! Also another story...stunned at how soooo many dealers use the '80s used car salesman tactics. But I digress.

In any event - it's got 30K miles on it and my last RK and SG didn't get up to even 25K and I never considered whether I should be concerned with the cam chain tensioners. I'm not a fan of the side case chrome guards and there a few minor cosmetic things I'll tweak, but it's got some of the same things I would've spent money on right away.

I want to put cams in this one at some point like I did with my last one...can't recall which Andrews cams I had installed by a good indy but this round I'll be looking for ideas on what to do with the engine if I spent, say, $1K.

Here are a couple of pics - I pick it up Thursday. Looking forward to getting back to this solid group for help (holding onto my wallet). Man, huge pics...not sure how to reduce, sorry 'bout that.

Congrats on the new addition! I like the tank graphics and the remake of the root beer color.

Thanks. I recall seeing this color combo years ago and thought it was great....didn't want to go too "typical".

They've also got 6 pages of service and maintenance records going back to 2010. Video clip attached...I hope.

Congrats on the bike , very nice color . Couple things I would look at , is if the bike has already had the comp upgraded with se comp or something , also consider the Woods cam ( TW222 ) , did mine a couple years ago , very impressive numbers for a 96" , got close to 100 hp / 100 torque .

Thanks. Yeah, cams for sure. The builder who worked on my previous swore by Andrews (57?) but as I try to get smart about this stuff again, the Fueling Reaper Cams comes-up a fair amount. No shortage of threads on this topic which is great! No CAT on the '09 is nice as well.

That reminds me, the shop at the dealer said it had "slip-on only"...but for the life of me, those pipes don't look like stock headers with slip-ons....am I wrong? Video attached...I think.

I wouldn't be concerned with the Cam tensioners with that year. Just look at them if or when you do the cam.

Echo what MyFavRk said. The 2007-2012? models had a crap compensator.

Not sure , hard to tell what headers are on the bike , you would have to look for a part # on the inside edge of the pipe , near the clamp by the transmission .

I tried to open the vid , but had no luck , didn't have the right app on my laptop , sorry .

If you do your own cam work , I would look at Power Vision , most here will swear by it . If you have a shop do the work , I would seriously consider having it dyno'd , have it done and never look back , like I did .
