Default Charging system

1998 Ultra Classic with charging issues. Battery went dead, boosted it and got it home, went and bought new HD battery.
The problem is the volt meter is showing only 10 volts, meter hooked to the battery is reading 12.50 volts.
Not really sure what else to look at, looking for help in checking the charging system regulator, generator or any help.

[&o] Ontario Canada.
Thanks,
John

I had the same thing happen on July 4th at the beach. Bought a battery but voltmeter was still at 10. It was the stator and alternator. I have a 05 ultra with 40,000 miles.

To check the stator romove your clutch cover and smell the inside, if it smells horriable it's probably a bad stator. My buddy's went bad on the way to Sturgis, it was about a $400 repair at the Harley dealer and it took about 3 hours.

Thanks for the info, did some checking as per charge system testing. It is telling me that the regulator is cooked, any help in
replacing it first locating and removal of it?
