Default Seat Question. FLHTK VS FLHTKL

I have a 18 FLHTK and I’m very lightly flat footed on it. The seat I currently have I assume is stock, part number 52000033. I have heard the Ultra Low seat is different and that I would sit about an inch lower. I have found one on fleabay part number 52000173 for a couple hundred bucks. Is this seat worth it and will I sit lower? Or should I just send mine out and have custom built? Thanks for your input.

The Harley low seat, IMHO... sucks...

I bought a used '16 Ultra Classic that had a "low" seat on it..

After riding it home, I parked it and didn't ride it again until I had another seat..

The low seat not only sits you lower, but also pushes you up closer to the bars. It was basically squishing me between the seat back and the tank.... I found it to be just short of torture..

Of course seats are very subjective.... I'm sure some love that seat.

My advice would be to try and try one (dealer seat demo) before spending money on one...

With seats, something to consider: The width makes a bigger difference than the height. Find a more narrow seat and you'll find yourself with more feet on the ground. You won't be giving up cushion and comfort going that way either. I could provide many options to consider, but keeping the width in mind, I set you on your course.

I have 150k miles on my FLHTKL seat and love it. Sits you a full inch lower and slightly forward. It is narrower between the thighs and you do give up some cushioning.

For myself and others, the "low" seat that came as original equipment on my 2015 Ultra Limited "Low" should be advertised as a HD "birth control device". Yep, that's correct....it's a "ball crusher"! I removed it ASAP and bought a used standard UL seat which I had modified by Mean Streets. They did a nice job at a reasonable price but it proved to be uncomfortable on longer rides perhaps because the memory foam they used compressed so much it offered little support. (fyi, I'm 5'8"/178 lbs/69yo)

In the end, I bought a used Mustang seat in excellent condition....ALL comfort issues (and flat footing) solved. I've always had Mustang seats on my other cycles and shouldn't have wasted my time messing around with other solutions. For me, Mustang seats have always been the best fit. Yes, they are pricey, and their return policy is strict but IF you can find them used they're great.

I had one of those ultra low ball crusher seats, terrible. I use a stock seat from a FLRT (Freewheeler) on my new Road Glide Limited now....I had it on my Ultra Limited before that. If you don't need a nice padded passenger seat, try that.

I had the dealer swap out the stock FLHTK seat on my 2018. Had them put in the seat for the low. It sat lower, but really pushed me forward and felt quite crowded. I finally bought a Saddlemen heated road sofa and it's just what I needed. I made other changes to finally get the riding position and ride comfortable. Changing the suspension can help get you lower.

I lowered my last one, try to avoid that if you can.... it really does affect handling in a negative way.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I will end up sending this one off to get modified once I can get back on the bike. Had a fall on the 11th that messed up my ankle pretty bad so I’m in a boot and on crutches.
