Default Ride Like A Pro

Jerry P, aka Ride Like A Pro likes these and promotes them. I have seen the bottom of a primary case scarred before. Not a bad idea, but ultimately be careful and don’t drop it.

That is actually pretty interesting. Below is my '22 Low Rider S salvage project. Note the oil spot under the primary. The bike hit something under the derby cover on the outer primary close to the seam to the inner. From the external markings, the impact seemed pretty minor however it bent one of the primary cover bolts and slightly tweaked the case. I stopped the leak with two gaskets and some sealer. I'm not advocating a primary guard, but the cases might be more fragile than one would think.

At least they are not plastic like the intake manifold. Yet. But that is another story.

Since the M8 Softails have a flat, o-ring style gasket, how did you fit two of them? Did you stuff them both into the gasket channel?

As coincidence would have it, I put up a post on my website yesterday talking about the unusual derby cover/outer primary engineering on those models. There's some information there about how to measure them that you might find helpful as you work through this. Here's the link.

I think he is talking about 2 outer primary gaskets, not the derby cover gasket as he said the primay bolts got tweaked.

You know... I thought about this again; and I was definitely right the first time.
This is like attaching a roll bar to your car seat instead of to the frame.

My dad would have called this device a solution without a problem.

I'd even go so far to put this in the same category as the vinyl top, dog costumes, and lip injections... "but why?"

I've seen the bottom of the primary scratched up too. I've had it happen on every one of my Harleys. The bottom of the saddlebag guards will get scratched too, which has happened to me also. If you practice slow speed stuff enough and push yourself to get better, you're going to drop your bike, and guards and bags WILL get scratched. Not bad, mind you, but it will occur.
Personally I don't care because the scratches are underneath everything and you don't notice them unless you are REALLY looking in detail. You MIGHT notice the edge of saddlebag at the bottom, but you really have to know where to look.
Of course, I am NOT one of those riders that has to have a spotless bike either. I don't care about rain drop marks, and don't spend hours detailing my bike. It gets washed when I think about it...and I don't think about it THAT much! LOL
