Where to run wire bundles is like putting a puzzle together. You try it a few different ways and pick the one that is the least offensive looking

Has anyone installed the eBay CD module yet? And did it work OK?

I'm waiting on FEDEX now.

i installed the module and the radio recognized it, it shows as if it is working and when i key the ptt it shows it keying up, i don't have an antenna or antenna wire yet so i can't say it is working but all indications are that it is. if so it will be the best $39 ever spent on ebay. if anyone knows the part numbers for the antenna wire that goes from the module back to the tour pack please email or pm me thanks.

I thought (and hope) that the feedline from the radio to the tour pak comes with the CB antenna kit that I ordered. Its too bad you don't have access to a dummy load to try it out. Mine should be here next week and I'll try it with a dummy load and post my results. I won't have a headset or hand mic yet.

Can you shove a wire into the antenna jack and see if it receives?

Jim

I bought the part 77140-05 for the plug housing on the console, and bought the 77121-98 console harness and finally the weather cover for the plug 76266-98. After all this you will need to make up an extension cable to mate the connector in the fairing to the console, I've tried everything and can't get the wires to reach for mating, bad enough trying to stuff that hughe cable into the fairing. My fairing is still off, i bought the antenna loading coil 76294-05 in case I later go with a tourpak. right now I will mount the antenna to the frame in back and use some type of cb attaching antenna, although I also bought the antenna from harley, backordered until Oct. The unit worked great, radio detected it and it shows all functions, changing channels, PTT and squech control. I had bought BNC connectors before I got the module, now looking at the module I think it is a TNC connector, anyone know for sure? Tight in the fairing, I have the harley air horn in there with a hidden am/fm/wb antenna. This is turning into a good thread, I bought two of the modules and one of our members has spoken for the one inbound from FEDEX. Probably will put the fairing back on until I can get the antenna and connector resolved. I wouldn't transmit for any long period without a proper antenna, burn the finals out. also if you make up your own antenna, try to make your coax run at 17ft. stuff the excess around places, don't coil, this is especialy true if you are mouning the tourpak antenna since you need the coil for the ground plane. enough for now, TNC connector question anyone......

Quick update, when I turn ON the CB, place the speaker switch in the bottom position and squelch to open, I can hear the CB in the bike speakers. So the units appear to work, I still have lots of work to finish the wiring and harness, but so far alls well.

Well, I just bid on one also. I did not bid against anyone, just the latest one that has no other bidder.

As to testing these, you really need to go to radio shack or other electronics store. Get an SWR meter, 21-534, and a dummy load.

Now that I think about it, go to a truck stop. Look in their electronics area for a cheap swr meter and a cb dummy load. The dummy load will look like an antenna cable connector with a red cap on it. You can use them to test the CD without damaging it. Usually products like this do not like reflected power, they really need to see a 50 ohm load, or the reflected power will damage the final output transistors. While the radios are cheap on ebay right now a replacement may not be easily obtained in the future.

As to the connector, I will look at the photos and see if I can figure out what it is and I will post the UG number here.

My user name is my ham radio operator license number.
