This thread has been great. The reason I am really looking at a RK is my size 6’1 250. Although I love the looks of Fatboys, Fatbobs, Heritage. The extra height and size make me feel more comfortable. Thanks everyone!!!

The saddlebags on the 02 are fiberglass, (NOT FIBERGLASS) and the 10 has the nylon resin compound Harley calls GTX. It's what's on the current models now.

I think if you were able to ride them blindfolded, you'd have a hard time telling the difference between a Heritage Softail and a Road King. Ride position is primarily a function of seat and bars on a bike with floorboards, and all of that can be changed.

I would have any problem differentiating between a early TC RK, Late TC RK, and any TC softail.. I've logged about 65000 on a early RK, 55000 on a 17 M8 and only about 50 on a TC softail.. and about 10 on a M8 softail.

FLHR carbed and solid rims. FLHRC was probably Delphi, which is good fuel injection and spokes I think. Before 2007 they had I in model name
I agree that 6 speed is over rated I like 5 speed still

I think it comes down to what you want to spend both are older bikes.

i had an 01 king and i currently have a 14ltd. aside from the fairing, the newer bike is just a better bike than the 01 was for all the reasons posted already. thats not at all saying that the 01 was a bad bike, id definately have another. all the little refinements and differences end up making a big difference as a whole. if you spend much time at all on the highway, 70mph with the 5spd was 3000rpms. the 6spd is about 2700. its not a huge difference, but it makes it a little easier. theyre both good bikes, and price being the same, id go for the 2010.

You would probably tell the difference between a Road King and a Heritage....

The Road King is a touring frame and the Heritage is a softail frame.... They have different sitting positions, suspensions and overall feel....

I bought my 2003 Heritage new. In 2012, I bought an Ultra Limited and took a cross country trip... When I got home, I took one last ride on the Heritage before putting it up for sale....

I couldn't sell the Heritage... it was a different feel, and like a completely different bike than the bagger.. so I kept both...

Now I have a '16 bagger (touring), '03 Heritage (softail), '01 FXSTS Springer (Softail), and a '16 Low rider (dyna)... They all feel very different to me in sitting position, ride feel, and of course comfort... Even the differences between the FL & FX softails are pretty noticeable IMHO....

I am also pretty sure I wouldn't be able to make any two of them feel the same by changing bars and seats....

I'm sure someone can confirm, but pretty sure the transition to the nylon GTX bags were around 2004/2005. And even then they still had fiberglass tourpaks. The fiberglass bags had the gray interior, to which a buddy had them...unless he somehow got the older bags on his 2002 Glide Classic.

On the carb, I guess they work pretty good when they are tuned right.

We are splitting a lot of hairs. What are the costs of the two bikes and what do you want to spend.

We are also talking about a lot of stuff from people guessing what went on in those years.
