the front part of theShifter linkage broke on my e glide. Is there a seceret to removing the rear crew? I've sprayed it with wd 40 and it won't budge!
Also I can't get the oil filter off. Do I have to use the filter wrench from hd? I got one of those endcap ones that you use with a ratchet. It fits perfect with the replacement. It keeps slipping on the old one. Is it just ridiculously tight? I need to get this done so I can ride down to the rally in knoxville wednesday!
No Seceret... Lots of cuss words helps sometimes...
Filter wrench..... Yep - Unless you can get lucky with a adjustable rubber wrench... Got to get around the sensor there... Recommend changing over to K&N Oil Filters They have a casting built into the top of the filter that you can remove with a socket...
yeah that's what I figured. I ran out of cuss words so I quit! Maybe I'll dream up some more tonight and try again in the morning.
I just read about the K&N filters when I did a search. That's what I'll buy next. I guess I'll go pick up a wrench from the stealer when they open. Hopefully they'll have one.
beat it off!!!! mine broke 3 times. finally got a new rod with heim joints, they last and last. A zip tie will fix ur problem temporarily.
Yeah I had to use some zip ties on the way to work this morning. I was lucky that I had some in my saddlebag. I guess I'll always keep a pack in there with the other stuff!
The front shift rod linkage is notorious for failure. its failure is caused by banging down hard on the rear shift lever over and over again. As previously stated a heim joint is a better set up. you can get them from j and p and other aftermarket people. i believe the rode has a 5/16 24 thread.. As for the oil filter, a nylon cloth type strap wrench works well for getting the filter off. you can get that at alomst any parts store. It has a square metal rod about 6 inches longwith a half inch drive opening onone end and the strap on the other end. carefully work the strap down to the bottom of the filter, wrap it around the metal part of the wrenchand give it hell. The filter will come off. Only tighten the new filter by hand 1/4 turn past gasket contact. Lube the gasket also perio to install with motor oil.
