Question battery tender

hi- I use a HD battery tender. My independent HD shop mechanic guy said to always keep your scoot on the tender when not riding. I've kept my 2011 FLHRKC on a tender since I have had the bike new.

My question is, do most riders keep their bikes on a tender, and if so, do they alternate having the tender plugged in for a month, and then unplug for a period of time?

When I'm not riding the tender is plugged in. The electronics create a constant draw on the bikes electrical system.

I keep mine mostly on a tender, we have weeks where we ride pretty much every day and I might relax that a bit.

Send a message to Rounders. He gets 20 years out of his batteries.

Rather than regurgitate all the battery jargon etc.; I offer the below threads for your reading information and pleasure. There is some good advice, some not good advice, and some lively discussion on the Battery Tender issue.

There are many different opinions and one of our battery experts (you will have to figure out who that is) has his own opinions.

As you have kept your bike on a tender since it was new, you have your answer for you, does not matter what most other riders do.

Best Regards.

This is my first HD. My battery lasted 2 years. I never plugged it in because I didn't think I needed to. Bought new battery and I plug it in most of the time now. Seems to work.

I alternate weeks on and weeks off (during Winter) but always unplug it a week before leaving on a big trip so I know the battery is actually good and not just the tender making it look good.

This has been asked many times. The consensus is to keep the tender on whenever you are not riding. Make sure it’s an actual intelligent tender, like the HD one..never use a trickle charger.

If the HD tender didn't actually work you would have a molten mess on the garage floor or a flat battery!
