Have a 2021 Ultra Limited that I rode about 50 miles yesterday, first time its been out this year. Parked it and came in the house, went out today and found this under the bike.
Pulled the right side cover off and sometime yesterday the radiator cap hose barb pushed up out of the hose. Coolant tank is empty.
It still has about a month of warranty left on it and I am going to call the dealer in the morning.
Bike has 4700 miles on it and I will take it to the dealer for the 5000 mile oil change so its not like I would need to make a special trip, just run it over a little earlier.
Just wondering what the general consensus is on riding 50 miles to the dealer with little or no coolant in the bike. I dont know anything about these wet heads. Would it or could it burn out the pump?
Lots of knowledgeable people on here and thought I would get some opinions before I talked to the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!
I would at least put some coolant in it. Running it dry could damage the pump not to mention over heat the heads. I would call the dealer you plan to take it to and get their opinion. That way, if they say just ride it over, and damages the engine, they can't blame you for neglecting it. My guess is they will say to put coolant in it, or at least some distilled water. If the weather is very cool, like 40's you might get away with riding it. If it were mine, I wouldn't risk it.
I think I am going to have to take the lower apart to get it back in there. I could dump some distilled water in but without taking the lower apart and fixing it, I don’t think it will stay in there long.
The wet heads are for rider comfort, and do not reduce engine temperature. Riding with no coolant will not hurt the motor. But, I’d be concerned with hurting the water pump running it low on fluid. Call your dealer and ask them what to do. Most decent dealers will tow for warranty work. Don’t attempt a repair that could void your warranty.
i would not ride it any ware the dealer would come and pick it up if it were mine 4700 miles come on make um come pick it up if you go to ****ing with it there goanna say warranty is void Just mt 2 cents
I wonder what they would say about me fixing it. I agree with Ghetto Blaster, it looks like an easy fix but I haven’t dealt with much warranty work. Don’t want to screw up the warranty if there is already a problem with the pump or something. No lights came on when I parked it yesterday so I wouldn’t think it damaged anything. I’ll give the dealer a call tomorrow and see what they have to say. Thanks for the help!
