Been researching this problem with Bette Lou, my 91 Classic. She shines in the FMs between 40 and 70, not on the Interstate with the airflow, even though her S&S 111 Evo purrs. About to drop the idea of fixing the air buffeting, well , maybe try those stylish fangs, then give up. When we need to really get somewhere, cruise at 90 all day, we take Mr. Miyagi, our 2010 GL1800
Bette Louise after my Mom Mr. Miyagi (not really just made that up)
Madstad got similar system on the Wing. Windbender made in Oregon. Amazing shield. Not going to spend that on the Harley. Just looking for a little relief from buffeting.
I'm just happy to see most people call it buffeting, the correct term. Buffering is something data does. With that being said, have you tried the triple tree wind deflector? Run around 30 bucks and push the air down under the tank instead of around and over it.
This is going to sound a little odd...I have a Street Glide ST and was getting a decent amount of buffeting. I am 6' 1" and pretty normal dimensions for that height. Added a 6.5" Klock Werks windshield. Did much better, but was getting buffeting still. Read all the posts on buffeting, just like you. Held my arm horizontal across my chest--lots of air coming up at me. Held my hand out and traced a stream of air back to the underside of the fairing and figured fangs must be the answer for me. Then I changed my seat to a LePera Daddy Long Legs seat and it pushed me further back and my riding position changed--my knees came in closer to the tank because I wasn't so cramped and I realized most of the air coming back at me was from my open knees catching wind. If I hug the tank with my knees almost all the turbulence and air was gone--if I man-spread I get tons of buffeting coming up at me. Dumb, I know. But if I man-spread I get tons of air coming up my chest--close the knees and its gone, instantly. Like flipping a switch on and off. Dunno if that is what is going on for you, but figured I'd share.
This is the ticket to riding any bike with a fairing ....to test ..have your wife ride in the winter time ...she'll slap you ever time you open your legs !!!

I had the worst luck with that damn thing. I threw it on right before a 3,000 mile ride, and took it off at the first gas stop. It actually made mine worse.
The DK wings, and wearing a skull cap give me the best ride, at any speed. Also, having a seat that sets me back that 1.5" really seems to help with that air coming up under the tank.
The dog bowl deflector…yes I’ve had it on but that’s a great no-$$ experiment to remove it.
Also have a question in with DK Customs re. fitment of their deflector, seeing mine’s a ‘91. I don’t mind modifying and last year during the rebuild I bought an old oven to do parts painting.
