Default Another buffeting thread

Starting a new one because I think I've read all the old ones. Hoping maybe I missed something or someone can shed some light. 2022 Electra Glide. Street Glide seat. I'm 6ft tall and wear FF Shoei GT-Air.

I now have 4 shields. From 3" to 11". Amazon, Freedom, Long Ride and stock. I've tested 3 diff size Klock Works. I've even tried with no shield.
I have hard lowers from Hog Workz, fangs, dog dish, fairing wings and DK Customs cooling deflectors. (Not everything is on at the same time)

Soooo...I feel like I have every friggin wind management device out there except for a MadStad. I just don't see how that will help because it's basically a small shield behind a larger floating shield. Plus, they're hideous on touring bikes.
This weekend I removed the lowers and installed the fangs. No change but I think I like the lowers better for the lower leg protection. Also, the way the fangs are shaped, it's gotta be a strong aerodynamic drag.

I'm pretty sure it's the turbulent air coming up at me from sides of tank/knee area. It's not a big rush of air but enough to bounce my hand around a bit if I hold it out. These gadgets have helped a bit from bone stock, but I'm still getting fatigued from the bit of jostling around and choppy noise on long rides. If I hunch down a bit and lean fwd, no buffeting...all quiet and still. If I sit back on my pillon and get my head real high, no buffeting...just steady stream of air.

My Sporty has no windshield so I get no buffeting. Just have to hold on tight at 80mph and forget extended 90mph riding.

Is the bat wing just too damn big? Is it creating TOO much of an air pocket which causes the issues at highway speed? Is it my height? Seems like shorter riders don't have as much as a problem because they sit closer and down...like when I hunch a bit and lean in..the buffeting stops. If I get a seat that moves me closer, I'll probably feel cramped....?

How about a Road King with the small Road Warrior or FXDXT style shield? They're much skinnier/smaller. I don't hear too many Dyna riders with these smaller style shields complaining of buffeting....just us on these Glide models.

I like some wind, especially on hot days. I'm not looking to put myself in a complete cocoon of dead air.

How many have tried cut outs on your shield? Did it work? I don't mind sacrificing my stock shield if it might.

OK...I've given you guys my thoughts and what gimmicks I have. What say you? What combo cured your buffeting? Or did you just get it minimal enough to deal with it?

Man, I got nothing. For me, it was fork fangs that gave me biggest improvement to buffering. Almost completely eliminated it. I did run 8.5 KW windshield with them and the dog dish thing between the forks. Sounds like you threw everything and a kitchen sink at it. Maybe try KlockWorks screen? They have a lip that deflects air above your head. With your height, you could go taller than 8.5 and they still look good.

Since then, I removed the fangs and dog dish and just run lowers. They do not help that much with buffering, but I do have DK Customs air deflectors that mount next to the front of the tank.

Oh, I do have HD batwing air deflectors, but they had minimal impact.

Next time you're out riding and get the buffeting, place your left arm across you chest horizontally....if the buffeting stops, the wind is coming from below your fairing. On my last street glide, along with my current street glide, I installed fangs and that cured the buffeting. On my current '21 Street Glide, I noticed a lot of heat from the exhaust. After some research, I removed the catalytic converter, removed the fangs to allow more air hit the engine. Installed the DK Custom air deflectors on the front tank mount, got the tank lift kit, also from DK. This removed the buffeting, allowed more air to flow down by the engine.
Sounds like you've tried alot of options. I have no suggestions other than placing your arm across you chest to see if that helps reduce buffeting.

It's a motorcycle, you're going to get wind and buffeting with a faring. Ever ridden in a convertible?

Wind and buffering are two different things. In some cases, the buffering is so bad, that it feels like your head is in a paint shaker.

I was looking at "DK Custom Cooling Wings" not sure how they would work.

Recurve windshield and fangs work like a champ.

I have them, they direct the airflow down toward the engine. They did help a little for me. I kept them on.

For me, the biggest change I notice when I swap shields from KW 6.5 inch to 8.5. Buffering virtually disappears with taller screen.

I am not using fangs anymore because they made engine temps go up really high.
