This is a frustrating topic. This isn't just a motorcycle issue either. It also needs to apply to planes, jets, diesel pickups, diesel Semi tractor trailer rigs, lawn mowers, riding tractors, farm tractors, boom boxes, base pounding car booms, chain saws, table saws, drills, automatic dishwashers, people standing at bars and sitting at tables in restaurantsyacking on theircell phones, airport announcement speakers. This big brother crap has gotten much worse in the past 10 years.
The MORONS screw it up for everyone else. Loud can be ok....but you need to have common sense.[sm=outcold.gif]
You may like loud doesn't mean I have to, if everyone with loud pipes had some courtousy for others there would not be problem.
My comments relate to this post inasmuch as complaining about government is like complaining about the weather, everybody talks about it, but no one is doing anything!
My Shipmate Dave and I were having a discussion about email signatures yesterday. Dave is very much a constitutionalist and I'm a big believer in standing on your own two feet.
Anyhow, here's some of our conversation in regard to possible alternative signatures to his current one, which is at the very bottom, enjoy:
D:
Feel free to change your signature. It's getting a little stale! >8 )
LoL~Anyhow, I thought you'd like this one.

"It is only when the People become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising their sovereignty. Let us, by all wise and constitutional measures, promote intelligence among the People, as the best means of preserving our liberties." - James Monroe
Yeah, it's still a good one and less offensive than...
"You have plenty of rights in this country, provided you don't get caught exercising them." -Terry Mitchell
or
"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe
or
"We have reached the time when it is morally right to "shoot the bastards", but it is not yet practical to do so." - Vin Suprynowicz
But this one might be OK....
"When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." -Thomas Jefferson
or this one...
"It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority." -Benjamin Franklin
"No one is bound to obey an unconstitutional law and no courts are bound to enforce it." -U.S. Supreme Court in Marbury vs. Madison
Did we say something politically incorrect? >; / GOOD!

Hope those ignorant laws don't come to my area. I live in northern Illinois and myself, all my friends, and about 75% of the bikers in this area run straight pipes. I'll admit, we "get on it" in the rural areas, but try to take it easy in town. IMO the louder the better. Who wants a whimpy sounding Harley?? You want quiet, buy a Gold Wing. A quiet Harley is like wiping before you poop... it just don't make sense! Last thing we need is some more stupid laws!! Go ahead and crack down on the idiots who blast there pipes in town and 1 AM. There's laws already in place for that.
There will come a time when we have to make a call and get permision to leave the house. And we better not get caught with a pack of smokes in the house or there will be hell to pay[:'(]
I'll bet this got started by some guy getting woke up by a bike with drag pipes. Probibally cracking his throttle through the neighborhood at 3a.m.
See what not being considerate will get us.
These are the exact idiots that give all bikers that bad name. One guy rolls through the quiet town with straight pipes and takes off from the stop light at full throttle to get to the speed limit of 25mph. Everyone at the outdoor restaurant has to stop talking, some clap their hands over their ears. What is the topic of conversation after this ACTUALLY HAPPENS in my town with me and my wife and her sister? At nearly all of the tables you could hear, "I Hate those bikers and their loud bikes! They shouldn't be allowed on the street anymore!"
It is the few idiots that makes us all pay for their inconsiderateness
I third.
These are the idiots that are the source of this serious and real threat . In my town this is now being enforced. In the long run some enjoyment is going to be taken out of our hobbie and way of life.
The argument loud save lives is not true. Common sense and vigilance in the seat save lives. Driving defensively as if you are invisible save lives. Drunk drivers don't hear or see you they just run over you.
Goldwing drivers do not have proportionaly more accidents.
The psycho babble that we lose our rightsjust pisses me off even more. Abuse any right and you lose it. Especiallybecause some jack#$ abused our rights and can't tell the the difference when to lay off the throttle. Real cool because of him or her we might be riding singers.
Getting pissed off or indicating defiance to this article is ignorant. Reading and understanding this article crucial. We are, not will lose our ability to pick equipment we prefer is in motion. It has been legislated and is now being enforced because of the a few idiots.
Sorry to flame I just hate have my life ruled because of a few Morons.

Keep Two On The Ground Always
I have drag pipes. I love them. You don't have to. I rarely get on them in the neighborhood, but I do on occasion. And yes, it is at 3am, when I get off work. Does it wake the neighbors? Probally. Do their lawnmowers wake the wife and I up at 7 am every weekend? Yes they do. Do my pipes bother people in their cars? Probally. Does that rap/hip hop music blasting irritate me? Yes it does. Am I an idiot because I have drag pipes? No. I may be an idiot, but that is just what the wife calls me. Not once has anyone ever told me that they think my pipes are to loud, or has anyone ever come up and told me anything negative about my pipes. All anyone has ever said to me, with regards to the pipes, is that they sound good. So, until Johnny Law tells me to take off my pipes, they stay. Don't like it, don't ride with me. Sorry, but that is just MY opinion. And, as someone once said, do unto others.
Can someone tell me how a non-catalyst stock muffler be any more emissions compliant than a non-catalyst aftermarket muffler? Emissions is all in the tune, you are either stioctiometrically aligned or you aren't. Sound can't affect chemistry.
it's all about the money, this type of law will bring in money from tickets, and it's bull, were all losing freedom day after day, other wise they would only be going after the idiots who are not using common sense, heck if this goes into effect i might as well get a metric bike if i cant have the bike i want i might as well save some money, and quit cooking my n@ds. ( 07 ultra).
