Do you really want to be Muffled???
. Boy, how did we get here from loud pipes!!!
The Constitution of the United States of America
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Was it insure or ensure? nevermind...
As to loud pipes... it's kind of amusing how there are those that do have loud pipes here on the forum, use them at awkward times (early AM for example), and still think that's "OK". I think that common courtesy for your neighbor would be fairly important. I'm not saying get rid of your loud pipes, just be aware of "if the shoe were on the other foot" as far as throttling up and trying to bust the sound barrier. Now, if you're sitting next to one of those ignorant types that are booming their garbage music in their car, and rattling their license plates off, and you want to over rev to drown out the filth... I have no problem with that. If they complain... just tell them "Sorry, if I wanted to listen to your crap music (of whatever genre), I'd be sitting in your car...".
If you don't want the govt to crack down on this noise issue... use some common sense, common courtesy, and get involved in voting, showing up at debates or town meetings, and make your voice heard there. I can remember when CT was considering a helmet law. Bikers from around the state, (and outside of it even), showed up en masse, and basically closed down the capital with their presence, tying up the roads so bad, that to this day, we still have no helmet law (though we DO have to wear seatbelts when in a cage... go figure). IMO, just kvetching about it in an online forum, isn't the same thing as making your voice heard to those that can do something about it (your representative).
I'm just a Bill, yes I'm only a Bill
And I'm sitting here on Capital Hill
I myself (my opinoin is loud pipes saves lives).
But how loud is too loud???

Now, having said the above, let me make this clarification. As I said, I've been riding for 30+ years and while I've never owned a Harley, I do appreciate how they sound and for the most part, don't even mind the really loud ones. Not everyone feels that way and that's why motorcylists in general are having to deal with these issues now. I don't like it any more than you do but I do understand where the opposition is coming from. Our "right" to make noise is not unlimited. Our "right" to do anything wewant inthis life without regard to how it effect othersis not unlimited. Sooner or later, we're going to be hit with limits to our so called rights and from the sound of it (no pun intended), the "loud pipes saves lives" group may be about to meet theirs!
Good luck & Ride Safe,
Steve R.
