Its a factory fan that blows hot air radiating from the cat down away from the passengers right leg. Gimmicky? It simply moves air. I can attest that my wifes leg no longer cooks after the install. YMMV.
Yes de-catting would be better if you dont care about your warranty.
Even without cats the fan would still help.
Oh my. Just an opinion. I never buy new bikes so I don't worry about warranty. However I think if I did I would decat. Save old headers and pipes. And reinstall if ever I had a warranty issue. Pretty simple really. A lot of Florida dealers really don't care if u decat anyway. They still cover from what I am hearing. Safe rides

No worries, my opinion is worth about what one pays for it. Just my experience. Decatting would always help cut down the heat no question.
I put a decat header on my bike and while it did help some there was still a lot of heat when in traffic on a warm day. I'm really happy with the fan and wish I'd done that first as it made a significantly larger difference and I ended up removing the decat and installing True Dual headers anyway. I also wish I had auto control but on my '15 it's a manual on/off switch which is fine except I sometimes forget to turn it off once I get moving (it's only useful at slow speed). I say it's worth getting if you spend time riding slowly on hot days. The heat relief on the calf is very noticeable.

I very much agree!! Mine's an '09 & I wasn't concerned with the manual switch but yes I forget about it quite a bit!!
It works.
It sucks the hot air off of your rear cylinder and puts it to the ground.
Head fans work too, plus the cat out plus having a good oil cooler.
A good tune helps too.
