Only have experience with string and they work well.

Use mushroom plugs, no problems. But I also wear helmets that fell on the ground. Yeah, I live on the edge, lol

I have never plugged a motorcycle tire or ever considered it. Interesting replies, sounds like a lot have had good luck. Guess I need to keep an open mind.

I used string plugs on car/truck tires. Mushroom plugs on motorcycle tires. I but new mushroom plugs every 4-5 years to place in the kit.

Never had either type fail. I have had holes too large to plug in truck tires. Never had that issue with motorcycle tires.

I bought that kit and keep it onboard but haven't had to use it yet. Compared to the rope style, how did you like it?

Plugs are hit or miss. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. I usually have good luck with them, but recently they kept failing. A plug is a temporary fix until you get it replaced.

Pro tip.....?

Maybe if you are professional thief.....

Neither have I, mainly because the ONE flat tire I had was caused by an object that put a relatively large jagged puncture in the tread. No plug was going to make it hold air even temporarily. I've used rope/string plugs many times on other tires with great success. I think one thing to consider is the possible need to plug a tire just to get the bike home or to a secure place...as opposed to using the tire long term.

Another thought or 2: A mushroom plug has a round stem and seems best suited to straight-in punctures from round objects like nails and screws. A rope plug is more of a freeform plug and would likely be a better choice for irregular or jagged punctures from sharp objects like metal, rocks, glass, etc....or angular punctures that don't go straight in perpendicular to the tread.

It's very similar to the rope style, but has the brass tips to easily go into the tire. Each plug is a smidge slimmer IMO but work just as good. The rear tire puncture I had was from a good size nail and I used 2 plugs. I like the wide end for better leverage in getting the plugs into the tire. I used a soapy water to check for any leaks afterwards, as well as the next day and all was good. The Avon tires only had about 2500 miles when I got the nail, and the plugs lasted until I replaced the tires at the wear bars.

I also carry one of
these these
cordless tire inflator. I like that the chuck locks onto the valve stem, easy on easy off.

There are some good youtube videos on plugs, I think Fortnine did one and I know Project Farm had a good one.
